Kehlani Ashely Parrish's friend, Destin Conrad, defended the singer against her ex-partner, Javaughn Young-White’s cult allegations. In a now-deleted X post on Tuesday, July 6, 2024, Destin Conrad called out Young-White, stating:
"N*ggas really pull sh*t out they *ss when they cornered, n that's what scare me about yall, instead of working on yourself u jus desperately fishin for something or someone to make a villain it's tired, get help."
He continued:
"yall get on here n make pieces about my friend all day but please don't ever come for the parenting n don't believe SH*T you read on the internet."
For the uninitiated, Javaughn filed a petition for the custody of their 5-year-old daughter Adeya, claiming Kehlani was in a cult whose leader had "numerous accusations of committing s*xual assault."
Destin Conrad is a Los Angeles-based R&B musician. He rose to fame on social media and later began releasing his own music, dropping his debut single, Cautious, in 2019. Conrad has since released his EP, COLORWAY. His best songs include It's Yours, On Ten, Switch, and Closure.
"I strongly deny any claims that I have put my child in harm’s way"- Kehlani responds to cult claims
Per Hot New Hip Hop Kehlani dated Javaughn Young-White sometime in 2018. The pair welcomed their daughter Adeya in March 2019, but they separated just a few months later. It remains unclear how the couple met and what led to their breakup.
Young-White is a guitar player and an internet personality who previously played for Kehlani. He is the brother of comedian and Daily Show reporter, Jaboukie Young-White. Parrish in a June 2021 interview with Them described Javaughn as their "close friend," adding that he was "super supportive" of them.
Per PEOPLE citing suit documents, Javaughn alleged that the cult is led by an abuser who was helping the After Hours singer keep his daughter from him. He added that the group controls Kehlani's actions, which include how the singer raises their daughter. Additionally, the guitarist claimed that he had not received Adeya's social security number.
Javaughn explained that Adeya was born through home birth and not a hospital, which is why Young-White's name is not on his daughter's birth certificate. He added that he has requested to rectify this but to no avail. The singer's former partner also claimed that Parrish leaves Adeya with random strangers instead of him, including the leader, expressing concern for her safety.
Additionally, according to reports by TMZ citing Javaughn's suit, the Gangsta hitmaker was a part of Santeria (an Afro-Caribbean religion), which was an alleged s*x cult. Young-White's suit is asking the court to establish his parental rights and requesting child support from Kehlani.
However, on Tuesday, both Young-White and Parrish, in separate statements, asserted that claims made in the media about the lawsuit were incorrect.
"I strongly deny any claims that I have put my child in harm’s way, or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe," Parrish wrote in a Instagram story.
Javaughn, in his IG post, strongly denied that he thought Santeria was a s*x cult. He slammed TMZ for "sensationalizing" his case and demanded a formal apology.
No other statements have been made at the time of this writing.
