Lil Wayne’s manager and longtime engineer Fabian Marasciullo took to his Instagram story on September 9, 2024, to express disappointment over the singer not being chosen to headline the upcoming 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. This comes after Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL confirmed that Kendrick Lamar will be performing on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Since New Orleans’ Louisiana is Lil Wayne’s home city, Fabian Marasciullo said on Instagram:

“Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all. Inspired. Will never again be in a position or have the [goat emoji, in reference to Lil Wayne] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone else’s decision. We will make the decisions.”

For those uninitiated, Fabian Marasciullo is a New York native mixer. His breakthrough came in 2004 after he produced Lil Wayne’s hit single Go DJ. Since then, he has mixed numerous of Wayne’s songs, including his 2005 album Tha Carter II and his song Lollipop, among others. A few other singers he has worked with include Flo Rida, Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child, and Britney Spears, among others.

Marasciullo also included Lil Wayne’s Right Above It track from his 2010’s I Am Not a Human Being album, which featured Drake, in the Instagram story.

Fabian Marasciullo completed his engineering course at the Full Sail school in Orlando before joining New York’s Hit Factory, where he worked his way up from internet to engineer. He eventually became an independent artist in 2001 and moved to Miami to focus on urban music. A few musicians and music labels he has worked with include Young Money Entertainment, Terror Squad, The Runners, Kodak Black, Bryson Tiller, and Lil Uzi Vert, among others.

Fabian Marasciullo was involved in the creation of Flo Rida’s iconic track Low. Speaking about his craft, he said in a 2008 interview with Sound on Sound:

“People make fun of me when I say this, but my job as a mixer is technical. It's about frequencies and pockets and spacing. I am very scientific when I mix, and I don't even listen to the song. I break things down to ones and zeros. I know people who are all about vibe and they like to mix with the lights dimmed and all that. I'll happily get down to work with the neon lights on. Maybe that's not the passionate approach people want to hear about, but it's the way I do it.”

Lil Wayne’s manager boasts over 26,000 followers on Instagram, where he frequently promotes Wayne’s music. In July 2021, Marasciullo took to Instagram to express gratitude for his COVID recovery and for having space at Criteria Recording Studios. Marasciullo wrote in his caption:

“God is the greatest Today is a wild day. A year ago today I was so scared. Was admitted to hospital thru the icu on what we thought was going to be the losing end of a battle with covid. Dark times. I spent the anniversary in my room. No matter wherever I live this will always be my room. My home. @criteria_recording_studios is where I earned my first top 100 my first top 10 my first number 1 my first grammy it’s where I mixed my first record.”

Lil Wayne had expressed interest in performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in December

In an interview with Bleacher Report, Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., stated that he wanted to perform at the Super Bowl “badly.” He went on to state that the career milestone would be comparable to winning a Grammy. Carter Jr. said:

“There’s so many people that’s not from the city there. So it’s a showcase. It’s something that tourists take back with them, and everybody not coming from an American city. People come from out the country, they gonna remember that. They're gonna remember, ‘OK, I went to New Orleans for the game…I kind of remember the halftime show, I remember the food.’ It's a showcase and I believe that I'm a part of the New Orleans showcase.”

In February, Lil Wayne also said on the 4HUNNID podcast that he was “praying” to receive the Super Bowl Halftime Show call. He added:

“I’m working hard. I’mma make sure this next album and everything I do is killer.”

Although Wayne is not headlining, maybe he will still take the stage considering Kendrick Lamar has a collaborative track with the musician titled Mona Lisa. However, this remains uncertain considering Wayne’s close affiliation with Drake, whom K. Dot recently feuded with.
