Garth Brooks was hit with a s*xual assault and battery lawsuit on Thursday, October 4, after a hairstylist and makeup artist accused him of forcing himself towards her s*xually in a hotel room.
The plaintiff, who is identified as Jane Roe in the lawsuit, also alleged that the country star had subjected her to unwanted s*xual conduct on other occasions, groped her br**sts, and sent her lewd text messages. She also accused Brooks of exposing himself to her multiple times, changed clothes with her in the room, and spoke openly about s*x and related fantasies.
Roe added in the documents that when Brooks became aware of her "financial difficulties" around 2019, the singer-songwriter started hiring her more. The lawsuit further alleges that the Friends in Low Places singer exploited the opportunity, saying:
"Brooks seized what he saw as an opportunity to subject a female employee to a side of Brooks that he conceals from the public. This side of Brooks believes he is entitled to s*xual gratification when he wants it, and using a female employee to get it, is fair game."
In her complaint, Roe explained that she started working for the music icon's wife in 1999 before she was hired to do hair and makeup for the If Tomorrow Never Comes singer. Garth Brooks has been married to American singer Trisha Yearwood since 2005.
Roe further alleges that the country singer previously told her that he had s*x with various women of multiple races and made "repeated remarks" to her about "having a thr**some" with his wife.
Exploring Garth Brooks' relationship as the music icon is hit with a s*xual assault lawsuit
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, who tied the knot in 2005, appeared to be deeply in love over the years. They were reportedly friends first since 1987, and Brooks asked Yearwood to sing with him in his No Fences album in 1990.
It helped jumpstart her musical career, and in 2001, shortly after Garth's divorce from Sandy Mahl, they started dating. Yearwood, for her part, divorced her second husband, Robert Reynolds, two years prior. The couple has since been open in speaking about their marriage. In a 2016 joint interview with Parade, they admitted that they are together "99 percent" of the time.
Yearwood said that they "don't spend many nights apart," to which Brooks added:
"I just want to be wherever she's at. I love breathing the same air she's breathing."
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood never had children together, but she is a stepmom to his three daughters with Mahl—Taylor, Sandy, and Allie. They make their blended family work, as Trisha Yearwood mentioned during an interview with Closer Weekly in December 2019. She explained that they have "very deep respect for each other" and that they "laugh all the time."
As for Brooks, he got emotional while on The Kelly Clarkson Show in November 2023 while talking about Yearwood. He said that during the day he takes his last breath, he would love to have his three daughters around him as well as "the queen," referring to Yearwood. The music icon also said that he "found [Trisha] in the past life" and he will "find her in the next."
Moreover, two days before Garth Brooks was hit with a s*xual assault lawsuit, he was still posting pictures of him and Trisha Yearwood holding hands. The October 1 Instagram post featured the back of him and his wife walking toward the Habitat for Humanity building site.
