TikTok executive Govind Sandhu was diagnosed with stage four cancer. The social media leader took to Instagram to share the tragic news and has since been sharing his treatment journey. Apart from being TikTok Australia’s Global Music Partnerships head, he is also best known for chronicling his marathon adventures.
Earlier this week, Govind Sandhu took to Instagram to reveal that he was shocked to learn that he was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at 38.
“This wasn’t exactly part of my five-year plan, I thought I was in the best shape of my life, the healthiest I’ve ever been. A Crossfitter who runs ultra-marathons and marathons, lives and breathes training, optimizes sleep and recovery, supplements, nutrition.”
The TikTok executive has been working in the social media organization for the past three years. He entered the entertainment and tech industry through his job at MTV Australia, where he worked in Talent Artist Relations.
Speaking about how the diagnosis came as a shock, Govind Sandhu also added,
“I just finished 75 Hard and was in Bali for a couple of weeks training up a storm.”

According to LinkedIn, Govind Sandhu graduated from Corvinus University of Budapest with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Eastern European History. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in film and media studies from the University of Otago.
Following his stint at MTV Australia, he joined Red Bull, where he worked for a decade. A few of his roles included being the Senior Global Music and Artist Marketing Manager, Global Artist Relations Manager, Culture Marketing Manager, and Sales Manager.
He joined TikTok in 2021 as a Senior Artist Partnerships Manager and was then promoted to become Head of Artist Partnerships. He now leads the Global Music Partnership.
Speaking about discovering that he had cancer, he revealed he visited the doctor after experiencing “flu-like symptoms.” He stated he was experiencing tremendous neck and shoulder pain as well.
After learning that he had cancer through a series of blood tests, ultrasounds, PET and CT scans, tissue biopsies, and more, he began his chemotherapy sessions, which were administered every 21 days. While sharing how he was navigating the diagnosis emotionally, Govind Sandhu said,
“Cancer is so complicated, confusing and nuanced. When you first get diagnosed, it’s so overwhelming to understand what it actually means for you, and it’s such a personalized journey. For me, it’s about taking it day by day and step by step. As I’ve said before, controlling what I can in terms of movement, nutrition, diet and do what I can.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, non-Hodgkin lymphoma typically begins in the lymph nodes, where white blood cells grow abnormally and subsequently lead to the development of tumors throughout the body.
Govind Sandhu has been updating followers on social media regarding his treatments and recovery. While revealing that he was heading to Saint Vincent’s Private Hospital for a two-day chemotherapy session, he revealed he got a good night’s sleep besides having good meals.
Sandhu will probably continue updating his followers with his recovery journey.
