Rockstar Jack White recently slammed Margo Martin, Trump's deputy communications chief, for using his song, Seven Nation Army. In an Instagram post on Thursday, August 29, 2024, the singer called out Donald Trump's campaign team and threatened them with legal action.
The White Stripes rocker shared a tweet seemingly posted on X by Martin that featured Trump ascending stairs leading into a plane as Seven Nation Army played in the background. Irked by the move, Jack White wrote:
"Oh....Don't even think about using my music you fascists. Law suit (sic) coming from my lawyers about this (to add to your 5 thousand others.) Have a great day at work today Margo Martin. And as long as I'm here, a double f**k you DonOLD for insulting our nation's veterans at Arlington you s**m. You should lose every military family's vote immediately from that if ANYTHING makes sense anymore."
Margo Martin is Donald Trump's longtime aide. She is now his deputy communications chief, responsible for organizing rallies and keeping his supporters up to date.
Margo Martin served as the White House press assistant when Trump was the President
Margo Martin is an Oklahoma native who served as the White House press assistant during Donald Trump's presidency. She remained by Trump's side even after he lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden. At the time, she spoke about her time serving in the White House in a departing Instagram post, saying:
"It’s impossible to adequately put into words—a goodbye that thoroughly thanks the people, memories and place that gave my life immeasurable purpose and happiness."
She became the Republican presidential candidate's deputy director of communications for his Save America PAC (political action committee) ahead of his campaign. She continues to hold the title and is frequently photographed with Trump at events and rallies, including NBA games, the Iowa State Fair, and UFC fights.
Margo Martin boasts more than 68k followers on her Instagram. Per a report by NDTV, she first made headlines last year when a reporter mistook her for Melania Trump during one of Trump's arraignments. Margo Martin frequently shares posts with her sister, Markie, a morning news anchor with NewsNAtion.
This is not the first time the rockstar called out Trump's team for using Seven Nation Army to promote his campaign. In 2016, when Donald Trump first ran for president, the White Stripes (a duo comprised of Meg and Jack White) slammed him for using the track. In a statement, they remarked they were "disgusted by this association."
Following that, the former bandmates started selling anti-Trump merch that read "Icky Trump." The phrase was a play on their 2007 album Icky Thump. The merchandise also contained phrases like, "Why don't you kick yourself out? You’re an immigrant too."
White is not the only musician who threatened Trump's campaign for using their music without permission. Last week, Beyonce's team sent a cease-and-desist to the campaign for using her song Freedom in a social media video. However, the singer allowed his rival, Kamala Harris, to use it.
Other musicians who have objected to Trump using their songs include Foo Fighters, ABBA, Rihanna, Panic! at the Disco, R.E.M., Bruce Springsteen, and Guns N’ Roses.
Trump's team has not responded to Jack White's comments.
