Who is Morgan Spurlock? Liam Payne's last Instagram post featuring One Direction gets flooded with fan tributes

As the world continues to mourn the untimely passing of Liam Payne, the singer's final Instagram post is flooded with fan tributes. On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the former One Direction member passed away after reportedly falling from the balcony of his room at the CasaSur Palmero hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In light of the news, Payne's final post on IG has taken on a new meaning for his fans. The post was shared on May 28 and featured him and his former bandmates, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles, standing alongside filmmaker Morgan Spurlock. He captioned:

"Rest in peace Morgan Spurlock, it was a pleasure working with you."

Spurlock was an American documentary filmmaker and producer. He is best known for his 2004 documentary, Super Size Me. The film saw the director allegedly eating only McDonald's food for a month and documenting the changes in his physical and mental health.

Spurlock hails from West Virginia and earned a BFA in film from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Spurlock is credited for his work on films like What Would Jesus Buy? (2007), Where in the World Is Osama bin Laden? (2008), and POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. He has also worked on TV shows like I Bet You Will, A Day in the Life, and Morgan Spurlock Inside Man.

In 2013, the moviemaker directed and produced a documentary concert film about Liam Payne's former band, titled One Direction: This Is Us. It followed the group on their second headlining tour, Take Me Home.

Morgan's work has earned her several awards and nominations, including Writers Guild of America's Best Documentary Screenplay, Best Director at the Sundance Film Festival, and Academy Award nominations for Best Feature Documentary.

In 2017, Spurlock released an essay on his blog admitting to s*xual misconduct, stating he was "part of the problem." As per a December 2017 article by NBC News, he detailed instances from his past in the blog post. He concluded, saying he believes he could be a "part of the solution" by admitting to his transgressions. In the aftermath of the post, Spurlock quit Hollywood.

The filmmaker's marriages to Priscilla Sommer, Alexandra Jamieson, and Sara Bernstein all ended in divorce, with him finalizing his divorce from Bernstein shortly before his death.

According to NBC, Morgan Spurlock died on May 23, 2024, from complications of cancer.


Fans mourn Liam Payne's passing and flood his comments with tributes

In light of Liam Payne's death, his final Instagram post, ironically a tribute post after Spurlock's passing, was flooded with fans mourning his loss. Many noted that the post included his former bandmates and commented that his "last post was a picture of five of them together." One fan quoted lyrics from 1D song Spaces, writing, "Who's gonna be the first to say goodbye?"

In the weeks leading to his death, Liam Payne and girlfriend Kate Cassidy flew to Argentina to attend a Niall Horan concert. Just an hour before his death, the singer shared Snapchat stories of him and Katy enjoying their vacation in the country.

Liam Payne is survived by his son, Bear, whom he shares with Cheryl Cole.
