Who is Ms Gladys to Birdman? Fans predict a whole new battle against Roc Nation as rapper speaks out

New Orleans rapper Bryan "Baby" Williams, aka Birdman, swore on his late mother, Ms. Gladys, to supposedly have Jay-Z respect him, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Lil Wayne. The 55-year-old took to X on September 10, hours after Nicki seemingly hit out at the Roc Nation founder for choosing Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne for Super Bowl LIX.

"These ni***az P****i @NICKIMINAJ @Drake @LilTunechi YMCMB. I’m make these n***az respek us on Gladys 🐐," he tweeted.

Kendrick announced on Sunday that he would perform at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans in February. However, several people were unhappy with Jay-Z’s pick and pointed out it should have been the Louisiana native Lil Wayne.

Nicki criticized Jay-Z for snubbing Wayne of the honor and opportunity, accusing him of being driven by his ego:

"Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!!"

Following Birdman and Nicki's tweets, a Reddit user posted speculation in the subgroup r/DarkKenny that the Respek rapper might be plotting something big against Jay-Z:

"Something is def happening behind the scenes and many are speculating that the uproar will speed up Jay's takedown...it's def going to be a smear campaign and something else really heavy now that Baby is involved and put it on Ms Gladys."

The user claimed Jay-Z fueled Kendrick Lamar's bitterness toward Drake, leading the California rapper to engage in a rap battle with Drizzy. Other users shared their thoughts on the matter:

"Possibly this beef is starting to mess with Birdmans bag. Possibly why he’s speaking on this", wrote one person.

"I wonder if Kendrick brings out Lil Wayne. Yall ever think of that?" asked another.

One user wrote Lil Wayne himself might not voice anything against Jay-Z:

"Jay paid Wayne’s back taxes and bailed him out from the IRS when he was going through it...I don’t think anything will happen. Wayne isn’t even mad."

Birdman mentions his deceased mother, Gladys, in recent tweet

Birdman has shared a longstanding familial bond with his Cash Money Records' former signee, Lil Wayne. While defending Weezy's honor in a somewhat cryptic tweet without directly mentioning the targeted person, the rapper swore on Gladys Brooks.

The rapper has referred to his late mother as Ms. Gladys. In 2016, he dedicated a song to her, on which Neno Calvin was a featured artist. During an interview with Hot 97 in 2016, Baby opened up about his mother, revealing Ms. Gladys was killed by a gunshot when he was only two years old.

There has also been some tension between Wayne and the elder Louisiana rapper over the years. In 2015, Lil Wayne reportedly sued Baby's label Cash Money Records for $51 million, accusing the CEO of violation of contract. Wayne alleged his album release was pushed back and demanded a termination of his contract with the label.

The two weren't on speaking terms for a few years after that, with Wayne's multiple jabs at the other and allegations of sabotage from Birdman's side. However, they seemingly sorted their differences and legal troubles and reunited by 2018.
