Recently, singer Chappell Roan made headlines when she responded to Billboard's claims that following a successful year, she parted ways with her State of the Art management team, including manager Nick Bobetsky. When the popular news outlet reported the same on their Instagram page on November 10, Roan took to the comment section to state:
"Yall suck for this."
According to an interview with Nick Bobetsky published on Hyperbo, Bobetsky, who is the manager at State of the Art Management, attended college in Upstate New York before relocating to Los Angeles to enroll in Ithaca College's LA program. During his last semester in Los Angeles, he interned for Universal Music Group and the independent label Milan Records.
Milan then hired him as their marketing manager after he graduated. There, he worked with different film studios to build their digital collection and manage marketing campaigns for arthouse film soundtracks.
Chappell Roan's manager, Nick Bobetsky, has worked for several companies before winding up at State of the Art Management
As per the same Billboard article, dated November 11, the announcement came after Chappell Roan's first round of Grammy nominations. Chappell Roan's manager's LinkedIn profile stated that he has released music with both indie and major labels. He has further managed artists like Em Beihold, LP, Livingston, etc.
Before working at the State of the Art Management, he was an LA Rep Consultant for Jaxsta Music from February 2017 to July 2021. Before that, he was a Talent Manager at Red Light Management from April 2013 to February 2019, where he also served as the CEO of his artists' companies.
He then supervised separate team members for each artist, including attorneys, agents, record labels, publishers, business managers, tour managers, publicists, marketing companies, promoters, producers, and international partners.
Additionally, he was also the founder of an organization called the Plaid Elephant. He worked at the Los Angeles company from August 2010 to May 2013.
He also oversaw the self-release of multiple acclaimed artists' albums worldwide, completed deals with major independent record labels and publishers, and pitched music to film, TV, and trailer music supervisors, landing "lucrative and influential licenses."
Additionally, just before starting his firm, he acted as a Senior Vice President for eight years for Milan Entertainment, from January 2002 to July 2010. There, he led general label operations and oversaw a variety of departments, like A&R, digital, sales, marketing, promotion, and business development.
He also oversaw the re-negotiation of digital content contracts and the release of album titles as digital downloads. Bobetsky then served as the primary contact with ADA/WEA distribution for all digital and physical releases. He further produced custom releases with exclusive partners like Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Moreover, at the start of his career, he also oversaw the music for several movies, such as Brian Crano's Bag of Hammers, Carrie Preston's That's What She Said, and Sophie Goodhart's My Blind Brother.
On the other hand, following the Instagram comment, Chappell Roan has not said anything officially.
