On July 4, rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar released the music video for his Drake diss track Not Like Us after a lot of anticipation. In the wake of this, internet personality, influencer, and podcaster DJ Akademiks took to Instagram and shared a snap of K-Dot standing in front of a cage, staring at the owl inside.
“They had an owl locked in a cage in the Not Like Us music video,” the caption read.
Drake’s longtime associate and friend Ovo Hush commented on the post and wrote:
“For safety.”
Since Ovo Hush’s comment emerged online, it has garnered enough traction, with people now trolling him and Drake. Here are some of the comments from X.
“I like those OVO guys. They don’t back down,” a person quipped.
“He misses Drake and that’s a symbol of his love,” one person joked.
“Ken got ovh*es on a leash,” another person wrote.
“They falling apart,” a netizen wrote.
“For safety of the kids,” another netizen wrote.
“Yeah, it’s about to pop off again. There’s definitely going to be a round 2,” an individual wrote.
“The owl is Drake being locked up. Ouch!!” another individual wrote.
"The OVh*es gotta run to social media as always. They better hope Kendrick Lamar don't keep this energy going when his album comes out next," a user wrote.
For the uninitiated, the music video of Not Like Us, which was dropped on Thursday, featured several owl imagery apart from the end visuals, which showed Kendrick Lamar holding a real barn owl in his hands, with the next shot revealing the bird trapped inside a cage while he looked on.
About a minute and a half into the nearly 6-minute-long video, Kendrick Lamar was also seen taking a swing at an owl piñata with a stick, as the disclaimer “No OVH*es were harmed in the making of this video” appeared below.
Notably, it was a mocking reference to Drake’s record label, OVO Sound, whose logo happens to be an owl.
Ovo Hush’s Instagram bio is a jab at Kendrick Lamar
Ovo Hush’s real name is Anthony Palman, but he also goes by the name Young Tony in the hip-hop world. He is a Toronto-based rapper and a longtime friend and associate of Drake.
Ovo Hush is also a member of Drake’s OVO Sound crew, and his name often appears in Drake’s rap lyrics, including in the tracks Miss Me (part of his debut album Thank Me Later) and Deep Pockets (part of the 2020 album Dark Lane Demo Tapes).
Reportedly, Drizzy named the latter single after two of Ovo Hush’s early mixtapes. In May 2020, Drake even slid into the comment section of one of Young Tony’s Instagram posts, where the latter inquired who the best emcees in the hip-hop business were, along with a picture of his old CDs. In response, 6 God wrote:
“My top 5 is Biggie, Hov, Wayne, Young Tony, and 3000 since nobody asked.”
Additionally, Ovo Hush has also been credited as the co-writer of Drake’s hit albums Take Care (2012) and Nothing Was the Same (2013). Not only that, but he has often been rumored as one of Drizzy’s ghostwriters, including by rapper and record producer Rick Ross.
However, the OVO crew has often dismissed the claims and maintained that Young Tony is an advisor.
Notably, Ovo Hush, who has the Instagram handle @hushergram with over 46,200 followers, mentioned Kendrick Lamar in his bio. He mockingly wrote:
“Don’t mind the Kendrick bots…”
It might be a reference to the claims of a tech geek named Anthony Saleh, who claimed on DJ Akademiks’ live conversation that he was hired by Kendrick Lamar’s team to use streaming bots to promote Not Like Us.
