Country singer Rory Feek recently got married to his daughter's teacher, Rebecca, on July 14, 2024, eight years after he lost his wife to cancer. In a romantic ceremony held in Greycliff, Montana, Feek and Rebecca tied the knot in the presence of their friends and family. The singer made the announcement of his nuptials in a blog post on Friday, July 19, 2024.
The Gentle Man musician surprised Rebecca with a song he wrote for her called I do, during the wedding. The bride was seen smiling widely as Rory sang about how lucky he was to meet her and how much her love meant to him. In his post, Feek wrote that this was the couple's "favorite moment of the wedding."
"I think by-far my and her favorite moment of the wedding was this one. When Indiana was given the gift of having a Mama in her life again. And Rebecca was given the gift of being a mother. And we became a family," Feek wrote.
Rory Feek was previously married to his musical partner, Joey Feek, who passed away in 2016 after battling cervical cancer for two years. They shared a daughter, ten-year-old Indiana, who was born with Down syndrome.
Rory Feek revealed the wedding was his daughter Indiana's idea
In his post, Rory Feek elaborated that his daughter encouraged the couple to tie the knot. He wrote that their "wedding actually began with" Indiana, whose idea it was to have the two get married. Feek also wrote that he was initially skeptical if he would ever get a chance to marry Rebecca.
He reasoned this out by saying that while he and Rebecca knew that "marriage was a possibility," it wasn't something they felt they could "seriously talk about."
"Mostly because up until that time Indiana only saw Rebecca as "Miss Rebecca" her schoolteacher and our friend," the singer explained.
The country singer added that neither of them wanted to hurt Indiana and "waited and watched to see" if the now-ten-year-old felt comfortable with their relationship. He wrote that one day, Indiana asked her teacher to get married to her "papa."
Rory Feek is a country singer and songwriter hailing from Kansas. He began his career writing for his peers, including Collin Raye's Someone You Used to Know. He has written for top artists like Clay Walker, Blake Shelton, and Tracy Byrd.
Rory formed a duo with his late wife Joey in 2008 called Joey + Rory. The duo was placed third on CMT's talent show, Can You Duet (2008). The same year, they dropped their debut single, Cheater Cheater, which peaked at No. 30 on the country charts.
Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014, three months after Indiana was born. She underwent surgery and treatment and was declared cancer-free. However, she relapsed a year later, and in October 2015, in his blog, Rory revealed that they decided to end the treatment.
In March 2016, Joey passed away, and Rory wrote about his wife of 14 years on his blog. His emotional post stated that his wife's "pain has ceased" and that "all her tears are dry."
"My wife’s greatest dream came true today. She is in Heaven. The cancer is gone. The pain has ceased. And all her tears are dry," Feek wrote.
Rory Feek was married to Tamara Gilmer from 1985 to 1992. They share two daughters, Heidi, 37, and Hopie, 35. Heidi followed in her father's footsteps and is an established country singer. She began her career singing backup for Joey + Rory. Meanwhile, Hopie is an actress who has appeared in a few children's TV shows.
Rory Feek later posted a music video for his song, I Do, on YouTube, featuring snippets from the wedding ceremony. It currently boasts over 400,000 views.
