Tory Lanez recently accused his former attorney, Shawn Holley, of sabotaging his defense in the shooting case involving Megan Thee Stallion. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Lanez claims Holley did not act in his best interests due to her connections with Roc Nation.
He asserts that Roc Nation pressured Holley to push him into accepting a plea deal and points to the Hulu series Reasonable Doubt, loosely based on Holley's career, as evidence of her potential conflict of interest.
This is due to the series featuring Megan’s hit Savage remix and a track by Holley’s daughter, a backup singer for Beyoncé, who is married to Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation. However, speaking to TMZ, Holley dismissed Lanez’s claims as baseless, as she stated:
“Mr. Peterson brought these meritless claims to the State Bar over a year ago and they were summarily rejected and the matter was promptly closed. His actions to publicize this failed effort are likely tied to the appeal of his criminal conviction, for which I wish him well.”
For those unfamiliar, Tory Lanez was found guilty of multiple charges related to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, who is represented by Roc Nation. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting the hip-hop artist.
Shawn Holley has been a partner at Kinsella Holley Iser Kump Steinsapir LLP, a firm that mostly represents people from the entertainment industry. Other than Tory Lanez, Shawn Holley has also represented other artists and celebrities like Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Lamar Odom, and Mike Tyson.

In August 2023, Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison: More details explored
On July 12, 2020, rapper Tory Lanez was arrested for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle after an argument at a Hollywood Hills party escalated. Fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion, who was with him at the time, initially reported an injury caused by broken glass. Later, she clarified on social media that she was shot in the foot and required surgery.
In August 2020, Megan publicly accused Tory Lanez of shooting her. Lanez responded by releasing an album in September 2020, denying the accusation and suggesting he was being framed. The following month, he faced felony charges for assault with a firearm and carrying an unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
Megan then filed a protective order requiring Lanez to stay at least 100 yards away from her and not to contact her. In April 2022, Lanez was briefly detained for violating this order but was released on a higher bond.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023. However, the case was later challenged, as Lanez appealed to re-investigate the case. At the time, Tory Lanez’s lawyers stated:
“It is more than an abstract possibility that the jury could have been swayed by positive DNA test results showing Ms Harris’s DNA contributed to one of the four profiles recovered from the magazine and firearm.”
The lawyers continued:
“If the people had made such evidence available to the jury or the defence, it is reasonable to conclude that a rational trier of fact would have found the requisite reasonable doubt as to whether Mr Peterson had fired the weapon. When looking at the sum total of the circumstances of Petitioner Peterson’s trial, it is clear that a miscarriage of justice has occurred.”
As per All Hip Hop, Tory Lanez continues to be in custody in California. At the same time, the lawyers of the singer have not yet responded to the statement by Shawn Holley, who refuted the claims of the rapper.
