Rapper Vybz Kartel was released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, Kingston, Jamaica, on July 30, 2024. The musician was accompanied by his fiancée, Sidem Ozturk, as fans outside the prison greeted him. The couple also took to social media to share a video of themselves celebrating the release.

On August 1, 2024, Vybz Kartel uploaded a screenshot of a social media post that revealed that he was out of prison. The couple also uploaded a video of themselves celebrating in the car. As music blared through the speakers, they shared a kiss and also showed fans a bottle of alcohol. The video's caption reads, “ME AND WIFY #AMOUT.”

Vybz Kartel spent 13 years in prison for the killing of Clive 'Lizard' Williams. For those uninitiated, his fiancée, Sidem Ozturk, is a former social worker who left her job in London to move to Jamaica to spend time with the rapper.

In an exclusive interview with Urban Islandz in 2022, Sidem revealed that she studied psychology, philosophy, and sociology at university before becoming a social worker in London. She also stated that she is of Kurdish descent but was born in Turkey. Ozturk moved to the UK at a very young age and lived in the country for nearly 30 years.

Sidem Ozturk revealed that she and Vybz Kartel met for the first time in 2015 when she was just a fan of the artist. However, their relationship blossomed when she visited Jamaica in 2019.

Speaking about how they maintained their relationship while Kartel was doing time, she told Fox5 in 2022:

“When you know what you want and you know where your heart is at, it’s not that difficult, so I’m willing to wait.”

She is reportedly the muse and inspiration behind his True Religion EP, released in September 2022. Speaking about the EP, she told Urban Islandz she was “over the moon” with Kartel writing an entire album for her.

As the singer was doing time, Sidem Ozturk was partially involved in handling his career. She revealed to the publication that she was managing his Instagram account and monitoring his business on his behalf. She also called herself his “COO.”

Ozturk initially garnered immense hate from Kartel’s fans, who accused the duo of being involved in a relationship purely for publicity. However, she told Urban Islandz that she did not let it affect her or their relationship.

“Listen, if there is one thing I have learned from this experience its that haters will say what they want and doubters will believe in what they will. I think the PR accusations are quite hilarious and downright silly, to be honest,” she said.

Kartel is the father of seven children, whom he shares with five women. The 48-year-old rapper was given a life sentence in 2014 after his 2011 arrest for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
