Last week, on January 24, GRAMMYs announced a list of its star performers, who will be gracing the stage with their acts on February 2. A tweet from @PopBase posted Monday revealed that a "special guest" was due to make an appearance that night, alongside Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and other stars.
The tweet has since gone viral, receiving more than 1.1 million views and 21K likes (at the time of writing this). Netizens have been reacting to it, with one of them commenting:
"who is more special than taylor and beyoncé"
Some netizens pointed out how the biggest artists in the industry were already mentioned, pondering on who could be more "special" than them.
"'a very special guest' like the biggest artists in the world aren't already there" - commented an X user.
"We want Ariana Grande but it’s gonna be someone old and washed up wbk" - added another one.
"If taylor preforms the grammys will turn into her concert" - wrote a third user.
"Trump is coming as Special Guest" - posted a fourth user.
"can taylor swift stay home sometimes??? kinda giving cheap to ALWAYS be at EVERY event even the ones they least expect you" - replied a fifth one.
"could be post because he has songs with bey & tay. LG is possible. Rihanna finally? I don’t know if Kendrick would be available… or an older legacy performer" - commented a sixth one.
GRAMMYs will take place in Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena next month
While the special guest revelation has not been made so far, the first round of performers at the upcoming GRAMMYs has already been announced. The 2024 breakout artists that have made it include Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Chappell Roan.
Other performances at the event will be by Billie Eilish, Benson Boone, Doechii, Raye, Shakira, Teddy Swims, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé.
Per Variety, Harvey Mason Jr. - the CEO of the Recording Academy said about the ceremony in a statement:
"The upcoming Grammy Awards won’t just be about celebrating and honoring the best in music this year. They will also show how the power of music can help rebuild, uplift and support those in need."
Expressing gratitude to the performing artists on the evening, Harvey continued:
"We are thrilled that so many artists in our community are banding together at this time to show support for their fellow music makers and others impacted by the recent wildfires."
Beyoncé has won the highest number of nominations in the GRAMMYs 2025
GRAMMYs released its nomination list for the 2025 Grammys in November last year. Queen Bey had acquired the highest position on the list, thanks to her 2024 country album, Cowboy Carter.
Having received 11 nominations for the album and its singles, the Countdown singer has bested her own record - from when she received ten nominations in 2009.
Beyond her, four other female superstars are dominating the nominations this year - Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter. All five of these artists have their names listed in three of the four major Grammys categories - record, album, and song of the year.
Roan and Carpenter have even been nominated for the Best New Artist award. If either of them wins the award alongside the other three, they'll become the first artist to do so since 2020, when Billie Eilish did it.
The position below Beyonce on the highest nominations list has been tied among four artists - Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Charli XCX, and Post Malone - with each one bagging seven nominations. In the third place, Talyor, Chappell, and Sabrina are tied for six nods.
Trevor Noah will be returning as the host of the GRAMMYs for the fifth time.
