Tampa police had tracked down three suspects weeks after rapper Julio Foolio was gunned down. On Monday, July 29, 2024, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) released bodycam footage of them taking three people into custody, along with video of the shooting that took Julio's life.
In an X post, Jacksonville police identified the suspects as Sean Gathright, 18, Alicia Andrews, 21, and Isaiah Chance Jr., 21. Two others, Rashad Murphy, 30, and Davion Murphy, 27, remain at large.
On June 23, Charles Andrew Jones II, who goes by the stage name Foolio, was shot along with three others as they were driving through a parking lot of a Holiday Inn in Tampa, Florida. At the time, the Jacksonville rapper's lawyer, Lewis Fusco, shared a written statement claiming he was "ambushed."
Foolio was pronounced dead on the scene, while others were rushed to a local hospital. The tragic incident occurred just a day after the rapper's 26th birthday.
Tampa police suspect Foolio was gunned down in an ongoing feud between rival gangs
Bodycam footage shows Chance Jr., Gathright, and Andrews being arrested by Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's SWAT, CPR, and Gang Unit members in pouring rain. Per the tweet by JSO, they are currently held in the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Center and are awaiting transfer to Tampa.
Police suspect Foolio, known to be a member of the Jacksonville-based gang 6 Block (a set of "Kill Them All"/KTA gang), was gunned down in an ongoing feud between rival gangs. An NBC News report citing JSO elaborated that Jones' gang, 6 Block, has a feud with the rival gangs ATK and 1200.
Tampa police said Isaiah and Alicia were the getaway drivers, while Davion, Rashad, and Sean were named the shooters. Isaiah is an ATK member, while Rashad and Davion are associated with 1200.
Per NBC News, citing police reports, Alicia and Isaiah were charged with a count each of premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm and conspiracy to commit premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm. Sean is facing two counts of premeditated murder, three counts of attempted murder, and tampering with physical evidence.
In a press conference, State Attorney Susan Lopez explained:
"All five of these defendants are facing life in the Florida State Prison, even the ones who didn’t pull the trigger. In Florida, if you participate in the planning of a murder, you can be held accountable for the person’s death, and that is what we intend to do here.
"His fans knew him as 'Julio Foolio,' but to his mom, he’s Charles. We’re fighting to make sure that she gets justice."
Foolio has previously spoken about various attempts on his life, including a shooting incident from 2021 while he was at his recording studio when he was grazed by a bullet. At the time, the rapper taunted his shooting in an IG post, saying, "Y'all miss a whole 100 shots literally."
Police continue to investigate the case as Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy remain at large.
