Rapper Troy Ave was released from prison on Monday, August 26, 2024. This comes after the musician was put behind bars for his involvement in the deadly 2016 Irving Plaza, New York City, shooting. The singer was reportedly picked up from the Riker’s Island Correctional Facility by his girlfriend, who gave him two million dollars in cash.

Troy Ave took to his Instagram account to share an image of himself posing next to a red Lamborghini, wearing sunglasses and a mask. He was seen holding a box of liquor and the aforementioned cash. He wrote in the caption,

“Ya Boi Home!!”

He also took to his Instagram account to share images of him being celebrated at a party, after his release.

The Money Dance 1-2-3 crooner turned himself in February to serve a one-year sentence. However, he was let out early despite the shooting leaving his bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McPhatter, dead. His attorney John B. Stella revealed in a press statement in February,

“Roland Collins [Troy Ave] was sentenced on 2/9/24 to 1 year jail on his plea to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree. Under the law he must serve 8 months to satisfy that sentence. Since he previously spent almost 2 months in jail before he made bail, the remaining balance of time he must serve is a little over 6 months.”

More about the rapper as Troy Ave celebrates release from prison

Troy Ave (Roland Collins) received his nickname after growing up in the Crow Heights neighborhood of New York City’s Brooklyn. In 2009, he made his musical debut with the I’m in Traffick single.

Ave’s biggest music release was New York City: The Album. After collaborating with Pusha T, Prodigy, and Raekwon, the album managed to make it to Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

His discography includes other albums like Major Without a Deal, Roland Collins, Album of the Summer, White Christmas Vol. 8, WC5, Troy Ave. Vol. 2, and Dope Boy Troy, among others. The musician has amassed over 853,000 followers on Instagram, at the time of writing this article.

Along with Troy Ave taking to his Instagram account to confirm his release from prison, a 30-second video of him, which appears to be taken by a paparazzo, has gone viral online. In the same, he could be seen giving his unidentified girlfriend a hug and then taking pictures with a person, next to a sports car.

Prior to a February hearing, Ave took to his Instagram account to say,

“Just know the streets is a myth. All them people that was in the car with me, I end up taking the guns. Somebody shot at me, and instead of laying down and dying, I’d have been a hero, a martyr, I took the gun and bust back. And there you have it. Here go the consequences. But we don’t cry over split milk. We take the lemons and make lemonade. God is great and the paper’s straight.”

Ave is yet to open up about his imprisonment, since his release. Stay tuned for updates.
