Abraham Diaw is seeking to receive $16 million from Chris Brown after the singer reportedly ignored his alleged assault lawsuit. The lawsuit filed on October 2023 stems from an alleged February 2023 incident in a London nightclub. The accuser claimed that Brown ignored his lawsuit multiple times after he was served twice at his Los Angeles residence in February and April of this year.
Diaw alleged in his lawsuit that Brown smashed a bottle of alcohol on his face while at the nightclub. According to court documents from the lawsuit, Diaw contended that he suffered a slew of injuries and was unconscious following the alleged attack. The Blast reported on Monday, October 7 that Diaw was now seeking $16 million in damages in a default judgment.
Abraham Diaw claimed that Chris Brown smashed his head with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila
Abraham Diaw alleged in a lawsuit filed in October of last year that Chris Brown assaulted him with a bottle of alcohol. He claimed that the Go Crazy hitmaker smashed his face with a Don Julio 1942 tequila in February 2023, while at London's TAPE nightclub.
According to the lawsuit, Brown allegedly delivered "crushing blows" to Diaw's head, knocking him unconscious in the process after which he allegedly stomped on him for half a minute. As per the lawsuit, the then-43-year-old suffered a slew of serious injuries which required him to be hospitalized.
Abraham Diaw alleged that his head was left with several lacerations and his leg suffered from torn ligaments after Brown's attack. He claimed that the attack left him with "permanent" damage and "severe emotional distress". At the time the lawsuit was filed, Diaw demanded a jury trial and further claimed that the attack was caught in the club's surveillance cameras.
According to an interview given by Diaw to The Sun two months after the alleged incident, Diaw, who is also a music producer said that Brown hit him over the head "two or three" times. He also claimed that he had to use crutches after the incident. He said regarding the incident:
"My knee collapsed as well. He’s making out it was one of his entourage but it was him."
As per Daily Mail's October 2023 report, Diaw had known Chris Brown for several years prior to the attack. At the time, Abraham Diaw told The Sun that he had spoken to the police who hoped to resolve the matter soon. A friend of the alleged victim also told the publication:
"He was badly beaten up. He’s on crutches and can’t walk and faces months of physiotherapy."
As mentioned earlier, a year after Abraham Diaw filed the lawsuit, he is now requesting $16 million in damages from Chris Brown for allegedly ignoring his lawsuit on multiple occasions.
According to The Blast, Diaw reportedly served him twice at his Los Angeles residence this year, however, the singer allegedly ignored the lawsuit. Diaw's motion, quoted by The Blast read:
"Despite this proper service, [Chris] has failed to file any response to the complaint or the first amended complaint, exceeding the statutory time limit for doing so. As of October 1, 2024, it has been 141 days since the defendant was served with the first amended complaint."
Diaw argued that the court should grant him a default payment of $16 million for the damages allegedly suffered by him, due to Chris Brown's alleged noncompliance and abandonment of the opportunity to contest.
According to The Blast, Live Nation was also named as a defendant in the lawsuit but has since denied any involvement in the incident. Brown has not yet responded to the claims.
Apart from the aforementioned lawsuit, Chris Brown is currently on the receiving end of a slew of legal trouble. Most famously the singer's two former housekeepers requested $90 million in damages from the singer after his dog Hades allegedly attacked them on December 12, 2020.
