Rock band Three Days Grace announced on Instagram on October 4 that their former lead singer, Adam Gontier, has returned to the band’s lineup. This news comes after he was replaced by Matt Walst. Despite Gontier’s return, the band confirmed that Walst would remain as the new lead. They also shared that they would share details about new music and upcoming tours soon.

In an Instagram post featuring all the bandmates, Adam Gontier, Matt Walst, Barry Stock, Brad Walst, and Neil Sanderson, the band captioned:

“After performing together in Nashville around this time last year and spending time in the studio since, we’re excited to announce the official return of Adam Gontier to vocals in Three Days Grace, with Matt Walst remaining as a lead vocalist, as well.”

Three Days Grace also shared Adam Gontier’s statement on their social media page. He stated:

“I feel like it’s been seamless, better than we were expecting. It’s like we got back in a room together and picked up where we left off. We have been friends for so long it’s kind of natural to get back in the room together.”

Matt Walst, who was also the vocalist for My Darkest Days, said it was thrilling to record new music that paid tribute to Three Days Grace’s older albums. He added, “I’m excited for the fans to hear it!”

Three Days Grace previously announced that Adam Gontier left the band in January 2013, stating that he was ready to start a new chapter in his life.

Exploring Adam Gontier’s former resignation statement as Three Days Grace announces his return

On January 9, 2024, Adam Gontier shared in his full “Address of Resignation” that he was ready to “move on” and “evolve on my own terms.” His official statement read:

“A journey I look back on with integrity, and a future I look forward to with such hope. I have always admired brave hearts. Life is always changing. I will continue to follow my heart, and what I love to do. I’m not sure what the next horizon will look like, but I do have all the faith in the world that whatever it is, it’s meant to be, and I have faith that blessings will continue to shine over all of us.”

Gontier also addressed speculations about him battling health concerns in the social media post. This comes after the Canadian band claimed that he left the band due to unspecified “health issues” immediately after his departure was announced. Gontier stated in his official statement:

“It is important for me to address any concerns regarding my health being connected to drugs or addiction. The truth is, when I was struggling during that dark time in my life, I hit rock bottom, and I had the kindest of people reach out from all over the world, and reach their hands out to help pick me up… The truth is, and I’m very proud to say this..., I am sober.”

Following his departure, Gontier formed the band Saint Asonia, which included Staind guitarist Mike Mushok.

Three Days Grace teased Adam Gontier’s return on Instagram on October 6. They posted a cryptic phone message where Gontier told Walst, “Hey Matt, it’s Adam. I’m just running a few minutes behind, but I will be at the studio soon. If you could just let everybody know.”

The Canadian rock band was formed in 1992 in Norwood, Ontario. They originally called themselves the Groundswell. However, they changed their name in 1997 to Three Days Grace.
