Singer-songwriter Adele says she needs rest from making music and will be taking an "incredibly long break" from performing after she wraps up her Las Vegas residency in November 2024.
During a concert in Munich on August 31, the Easy on Me singer addressed her fans and said that although she is "not the most comfortable performer," she knows that she's "f***ng good at it." The singer mentioned that she has enjoyed performing for three years, which is the longest she has ever done and probably the longest she'll ever do.
"I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break, and I will fantasise about these shows and any shows that I've done over the last three years. It has been amazing. I just need a rest."
She further explained herself, saying,
"I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it now. I will remember these shows for eternity, they have been spectacular. I want to live my life that I've been building and I will miss you terribly."
The singer also mentioned that while Munich was meant to wind up her tour, she has ten more shows in Vegas to make up for the concerts she canceled when she fell ill at the beginning of her tour in 2022. The singer hasn't said when she'll return from her break.
Adele took to her Instagram on February 27, 2022, announcing that she was sick and had "no choice" as per doctor's orders and would reschedule for her Weekends with Adele Las Vegas Residency.
"I don't have any plans for new music," says Adele
Her recent Munich concert wasn't the first time Adele spoke about wanting to take a break from music. On July 14, 2024, during an interview with German outlet ZDF, Adele said she doesn't have any plans for new music.
"I don't have any plans for new music, at all. I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while."
In the same interview, she added that she doesn't like being famous, although she loves making music for people. Adele has often taken time between creating music. After debuting her first album, 19, in 2008, she released a follow-up album, 21, three years later in 2011, a third studio album, 25, four years later in 2015, and a fourth album, 30, in 2021.
In a December 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the singer mentioned she "hadn't even thought about" creating new music.
"I have to wait for a feeling. If I get antsy, that's when I know I have to go to the studio and I am the opposite of antsy right now."
As the singer decides to take a break, fans wait patiently for the next chapter in her life and career.
