Chris Brown has filed a defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. for releasing their Investigation Discovery docuseries, Chris Brown: A History of Violence, which touches on the issue of s*xual assault allegations against the singer.
In the $500 million lawsuit, Brown has reportedly claimed that the Warner Bros. docuseries caused him distress, and that the evidence provided in the documentary is fake. Apart from Warner Bros., the singer named Ample LLC, as they were also involved in the production of the docuseries.
As per Variety, the lawsuit states:
“To put it simply, this case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth. Since the beginning of October of 2024, Ample LLC and Warner Brothers were put on notice that they were promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars and to the detriment of Chris Brown.”
It continues:
“Ultimately, on October 27, 2024, they aired ‘Chris Brown: A History of Violence’ (the ‘Documentary’), knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating basic journalist principles.”
Chris Brown: A History of Violence, released in October 2024, shows the life of the singer and his past. It also narrates his story with Rihanna and the incidents that allegedly took place between the two in 2009. Furthermore, it also includes statements from a few women who were allegedly s*xually and physically assaulted by the singer.
More details revealed as the singer files a lawsuit against Warner Bros.
As Chris Brown files a lawsuit against Warner Bros. for defamation, he speaks about how he has never been found guilty of any s*x-related crimes or assault. As per Variety, the singer has alleged that the claims of Jane Doe in the docuseries had been “discredited over and over.”
He has also claimed that the woman narrating the alleged incidents was “a perpetrator of intimate partner violence and aggressor herself.”
However, TMZ reported that Brown took responsibility for his past mistakes with his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna, and claimed that he has “grown from them.” In the lawsuit, he has stated that the docuseries deeply impacted his professional and personal life, and therefore, he demanded $500 million as compensation.
Furthermore, the singer has mentioned that if he is awarded the asked amount, he will be contributing half of it to the victims of s*xual abuse. On the other hand, the defendants named in the lawsuit, Warner Bros. and Ample LLC, have not yet addressed the same, and have remained silent as of now.
Other than his domestic violence case with Rihanna, Chris has also had several other legal issues in his life. As per CNN, he was involved in an altercation with Frank Ocean over a parking space. In the spat, he allegedly punched Ocean. However, the latter did not press charges against the singer.
Thereafter, Standard UK also stated that in July 2013, Chris was involved in an alleged hit and run case, for which he was ordered to serve 1,000 hours of community time, along with probation.
For the unversed, Brown, born in 1989, is known for his singles such as Run It!, Under the Influence, No One Else, Loyal, Go Crazy and many more.
