Katy Perry shared a new snippet from the track Lifetimes which will be a part of her upcoming album, 143. The album is set to release on September 20, 2024.
On Friday, July 19, Perry took to her social media accounts to share a short clip of the track, Lifetimes. The video featured the pop star singing the bop while a small crowd of fans vibed and danced to the track. In the caption alongside, she wrote:
"143 IS A PARTY AND EVERYONE’S INVITED: SOUND ON"
The internet reactions erupted with Katy Perry's latest music tease, as many claimed it should have been her first single release from the album instead of Women's World, which dropped earlier this month. Here are some of the fan reactions:
"this is the bop of the summer i fear," one person said.
"SO GOOD OMG," another person wrote.
"Now this is a single," another fan added.
"Katy Perry always brings something special with her new releases," one user commented.
The reactions continued to pour in, with most fans liking the overall vibe of Lifetimes, yet some were skeptical due to her collaboration with Dr. Luke.
"This should’ve been the lead single. But still nope . Ain’t streaming any Dr Luke produced song," one person said.
"A new bop is coming, Kesha is about to be FORGOTTEN AGAIN," another person said.
"This shoulda been the lead single," one user said.
"this should have been the first single idk," another person agreed.
Katy Perry's first single from her upcoming seventh studio album, Woman's World, dropped on July 11 and received mixed reactions. A day before the release of her single, Perry announced that her next album would drop on September 20, 2024.
Katy Perry's upcoming album 143, controversy and more
On June 17, Kary Perry took to Instagram and other social media sites to announce the release of the first single from her upcoming seventh studio album, 143. She did not name the album then but announced the release of Woman's World, produced by Dr Luke.
Upon announcement, Perry met with widespread controversy for the involvement of Dr Luke in the song. This came after Luke was accused by Kesha of r**e and s****l abuse although he denied the allegations. However, they settled the case in June 2023, a month before the case was to go to trial.
Meanwhile, Luke is also credited as the producer in the YouTube preview of Perry's track, Lifetimes. Perry has previously worked with Dr. Luke for her songs Teenage Dream, I Kissed A Girl and California Gurl. She also reunited with her previous collaborator, Stargate, who was last involved in her song Fireworks.
On July 11, Katy Perry released her first single in 4 years, Woman's World. The song came 4 years after Perry's last studio album, Smile (2020) had been released. On July 10, a day before Woman's World was released, Perry announced her seventh studio album, 143. She told Rolling Stone about the album on July 10:
“I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expressions of love as a throughline message."
In April 2024, Perry had spoken to Access Hollywood about her next album, and said:
“I just have yet to make a record from a place of feeling really happy and whole and full of love.”
In the short teaser of Perry's Lifetimes, the popstar is heard singing the lyrics:
“I know you feel it/Can you believe it?/I’m gonna love you ’til the end and then repeat it/ For life/For life.”
Katy Perry is yet to reveal if Lifetimes from 143 will be the next single release or will drop along with the album.
