SZA shut down an ongoing rumor about Frank Ocean's verse on one of her latest album's tracks being removed last minute. Last Friday, December 20, the 35-year-old dropped her long-awaited SOS deluxe album, LANA. The album, which had 15 songs, including her February release, Saturn.
Following the release of LANA, a Frank Ocean fan page on X—@blondehomer—claimed that Ocean was featured in one of the songs in the album but was removed at the last minute. According to HotNewHipHop, SZA called the fan page out by replying to the tweet with:
"Lmao now why would you even make this up?? Ur insane. It never existed. and don't ever play on Frank's name like that EVAAAA."
The post has since been deleted, with the fan account seemingly deactivated on the platform.
Kendrick Lamar is the only featured guest on SZA's LANA
After SZA's feature on Kendrick Lamar's GNX, the latter made a guest appearance on one of the tracks from her deluxe album—30 for 30. Following the release of the track, netizens appeared to claim that Lamar's verse on the song dissed Drake.
"You f*ckin' with n**gas that's thinkin' they cuter than you, oh/ Say you on your cycle, but he on his period too, oh," Lamar raps.
However, neither K-Dot nor the Love Galore singer has commented on the matter. Another track from LANA that's gaining a lot of attention is Drive. Per Variety, the lyrics of this song shine among all the tracks from the album.
“I can’t lose my focus, I know if hope is the goal / Then I can’t succumb like these cum-guzzlers at all,” SZA sings in it.
Ben Stiller stars in the music video of the track, where he lip syncs the lyrics while driving a car on a rainy night.
Towards the end of the video, after Stiller drives off into the distance, the video features the wild grassland, where the 35-year-old singer moves in her bug get-up, with shimmering bug eyes and antennae attached to her face. The video has received over 4 million views and 277K likes since its release on Friday.
Saturn—the first single from the album released in February 2024—debuted at number six on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. It is also nominated in two categories in the upcoming 67th Annual Grammy Awards (scheduled on February 5, 2025)—Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance.
SZA's LANA took so long to release because of the leaks
When SZA announced the release of LANA on Friday earlier last week, many netizens claimed that the album would probably not drop, likely because of the previous delays.
In an interview with Variety published on November 29, 2023, the Green Mile singer addressed the leaks, saying:
"When people leak my songs, they ruin them. Then it’s not mine anymore; it’s actually yours. It’s something unfinished that you decided was ready to be shared. And it’s like, ‘F_k you. Now I’m not releasing it.’ Play your leak, but you’re not gonna bully me into dropping music."
The 35-year-old continued:
"I’m now embarrassed by this less-than-correct version that you put out. You’ve sent me into a weird space creatively when you could have just waited for me, but you’re selfish."
30 for 30 from SZA's LANA marks the third collaboration between her and the Money Trees rapper. The Babylon singer also featured on two songs from Lamar's sixth album that dropped last month—GNX—titled Gloria and Luther.
The artist duo is also set to co-headline the Grand National Tour next year, which kickstarts in April and concludes in June.
