Popular rapper Flavor Flav has made his way to the Olympics to support the U.S. Women’s Water Polo team. The rapper signed a 5-year deal as the official hype man for the U.S. Women’s and Men’s Water Polo National teams. Flavor Flav reportedly also made a financial contribution to the women’s polo team.
The sponsorship deal signed by Flavor Flav also demands him to make multiple appearances at team events, with the Olympics being a main part of the same. The sponsorship by the rapper came in after the captain of the women’s team, Maggie Steffens posted on Instagram asking for financial help for the team.
As soon as Flavor Flav got on board, the team was left super ecstatic. Maggie even expressed the same to one of the reporters during a press conference, as she said:
“I’ve been really empowered by other women in sports to use your voice, which can be a little scary at times. And I was calling for people to know my teammates and challenging them and empowering them to follow some of the more niche sports this Olympics, especially women’s. And Flavor Flav saw that and something about it sparked his interest.”
She continued by stating how the rapper “opened the door for people to learn about our team and different communities.” Maggie also stated that with the rapper’s contribution, more and more people “who would have never heard of water polo” will now be aware of the sport.
At the same time, Flavor Flav was also seen at the Women’s Water Polo match held on July 27, 2024, where he was seen in the stands rooting for the U.S. team. Being the U.S. team’s first match in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the team defeated Greece with a strong score of 15-6.
