Hernandez Govan, the individual alleged to be the mastermind behind the tragic death of rapper Young Dolph, has been arrested once again.
On June 23, 2024, Govan faced new charges, including stalking, driving with a suspended license, and having it positioned incorrectly in Southaven, Mississippi. He is set to appear in court on August 20, 2024, to address these charges.
Moreover, Govan's arrest has garnered significant attention due to his alleged involvement in the high-profile case of Dolph's death in 2021. As per News Channel 3, Govan has been accused of hiring goons to order a hit on the 36-year-old rapper.
Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. was an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. Better known by his stage name, Young Dolph, he first garnered attention for his guest appearance on O.T. Genasis' single Cut It 2015, which charted within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. His major hits include 100 Shots, Major, Hold Up Hold Up Hold Up, 1 Scale, and Foreva.
Why was Hernandez Govan retaken into custody? His alleged involvement in the Young Dolph murder case
Over the weekend, the Southaven Police Department (SPD) arrested Govan. He was charged with repeatedly following, harassing, or making threats, having an improperly mounted license tag, and driving with a suspended license. As per News Channel 3, he was released from DeSoto County jail on June 24, 2024, after paying a $2,250 bond.
The Shelby County District Attorney's Office reportedly told FOX13 that they were aware of the DeSoto County arrest and were looking into this case:
"We were apprised of Govan's arrest on an unrelated preexisting warrant last night. We are looking into the circumstances. The Court will be made aware of the arrest," a spokesperson for the Shelby district attorney's office told FOX13.
According to Hot New Hip Hop, Hernandez Govan was already out on bail on a $90,000 bond for the murder case of Young Dolph. In November 2022, Govan was arrested as a suspect for being the mastermind behind the rapper's untimely murder.
As FOX 13 reports, he was later charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
Young Dolph was allegedly assassinated on November 17, 2021, during his routine visit to Makeda's Homemade Butter Cookies on Airways Blvd. The stop at the shop by the self-proclaimed "King of Memphis" was nothing unusual. However, as per FOX 13, the videos that circulated online showed that he was forced to sign something:
"You came to get some what? Makeda's cookies! Get the sign. Get the sign," could be heard in a video.
Minutes after Dolph went to the store in his camouflage-wrapped Corvette to buy cookies for his mother, the gunshots were heard.
The two armed men ripped the window, leaving glass scattered in the front lobby and bullets in Young's body. The autopsy report suggested that the young rapper was shot 22 times and had wounds to the neck, back, and torso.
The trial for Govan under the alleged murder case was initially slated for March 2024; however, for unknown reasons, it was moved to June 2024.
Mia Jaye, the partner and mother of Dolph's children, took to her Instagram story in May 2024, suggesting that "NO ONE" has been held accountable for his love's life, despite being nearly two years to that:
"It is truly hurtful that my family was robbed of a future… My love's life was taken… and to be left behind to see NO ONE is held accountable in the Court of law for the act… is INSANE," Mia wrote.
She further wrote that their family has witnessed "lenient bodies" being granted. She concluded the post by suggesting that they are waiting for justice to be served.
"Our family has witnessed lenient bonds being granted, absurd requests approved for the defendants to receive a change of venue, freedom, more time to build a stronger defense… we've seen defendants release songs, enjoy life while on house arrest… all while our loved one is six feet deep, waiting for JUSTICE to be served… it is disheartening, unfair, triggering, and hurtful," Mia concluded.
On November 30, 2021, the family of Young Dolph laid him to rest in a private funeral. Govan's trial for the rapper's alleged murder case has been shifted to September 2024. Moreover, the reason behind ordering a hit or his connection with Young Dolph has not been disclosed yet.
