On December 28, a Facebook page named The Pop GirlZ shared a couple of AI photos of singers imagined to be homeless. The list included A-listers like Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Ice Spice, Billie Eilish, Lorde, Chappell Roan, Lizzo, Karol G, Belinda, Charli XCX, and Rosalía.
The post became quite popular with more than 300 shares and 1K likes. It has also been discovered that the Facebook page (The Pop GirlZ) has previously made several AI-generated content on celebrities.
Netizens noticed the post that was circulated on other social media platforms like X. A user (@Lil_Luna_IRLz) tweeted:
"Why does Ice Spice look like Earl Sweatshirt?"
Another user wrote on X:
"ICE SPICE’S PICTURE WHY THEY DO HER LIKE THAT."
"Omg the Charli XCX one is unhingeeddd," wrote another one.
"Why icey spicey have a mustache 😭😭😭😭😂," questioned a netizen.
Many believed that these AI-generated photos of the singers were too "unhinged." A user tweeted:
"Wtf is this 😭😂😭 ppl got too much time on their hands!"
"This is so f*cking unhinged on sooo many levels," added a tweet.
"Facebook can definitely stir up some strong opinions," commented a netizen.
AI-generated photos of celebrities have caused confusion earlier this year during the Met Gala
The latest computer-generated photos of the singers, which have gone viral all across social media, are not new. In May, during the Met Gala, several such photos of celebrities like Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, and Rihanna went viral, causing massive confusion.
As per a report by The Times of India, dated May 7, 2024, the photos of the aforementioned celebrities in over-the-top outfits went viral all over the internet. However, they were discovered to be fake and made using artificial intelligence.
The most talked about one was the picture of Katy Perry, where she had a floral gown on with moss on it. The outfit also paired well with the theme of the event which was "Sleeping Beauties: The Garden of Time." The post on X that included the photo, garnered millions of views. As of now, it received about 17 million views.
According to The Times of India, even Katy's mum confused it for a real photo of the singer. The outlet revealed that Mary Perry sent a text to Katy which read:
"Ha Feather! I didn't know you went to the Met. What a gorgeo gown. You look like the Rose Parade; you are your own float, lol."
It was only later that Katy Perry confirmed through an Instagram post on May 7, that she had not attended the Met Gala this year, and instead was busy working on new music at the studio.
Similar deep faked photos of RiRi also went viral, in which she was seen wearing a mermaid-style gown with an embroidered armpiece.
While these photos, including the latest ones that saw the singers in a homeless state were harmless, a lot of them often could cause confusion among people.
