Louisiana-based rapper Lamount London has recently filed a lawsuit against Quavo, also known as Quavious Keyate Marshall, accusing the latter of copying his song. The case is linked to Marshall's 2018 single Bubble Gum, which was included in his debut album, Quavo Huncho.
Lamount recalled in legal documents obtained by TMZ that he performed at the New Orleans-based Saenger Theatre in 2016, opening for Migos and 2 Chainz. The lawsuit reportedly claimed that he met Quavo and gave him a CD that included his original track Bubble Gum. He was expecting the Migos frontman to approach him for collaboration in the future, which did not happen at all.
A few years later, Lamount came across Quavo Huncho and noticed the similarity between his song Bubble Gum and the song of the same name added to the album. As per TMZ, the artist claimed that the arrangement, lyrics, and melody are the same as his work.
He is now seeking damages from Quavious for allegedly copying the lyrics and composition of Bubble Gum.
This lawsuit adds to the list of legal issues that Quavious has faced over the years.
Quavo recently appeared in court to testify in a 2018 case
The artist made headlines when he appeared in court on Wednesday to testify in his defense about an incident that took place in Las Vegas in 2018. This came after a valet from the Encore Hotel & Casino, Antonio Henry, alleged in court documents that Marshall injured him physically and emotionally, as per 8 News Now Investigators. Henry is seeking monetary damages from the artist.
As per the publication, the altercation began during a standoff, and the valet mentioned that he was allegedly battered, injured, and assaulted. However, Quavo's defense attorney claimed that the valet should not recover punitive damages and "retire" because of "one slap."
During his testimony, Quavo's attorney asked him what he believes his "image" to be, and as per 8 News Now Investigators, he responded:
"To be a great role model, for the kids at least. And just be myself and show them where I came from. I always – never forget where I came from. But, also just be kind to others."
In 2021, the Atlanta-born rapper was hit with another lawsuit when a limo driver reportedly claimed that he was assaulted by him outside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. As per TMZ, things took a turn when those in the vehicle alleged that the driver left a member of their group behind at a club.
The driver alleged that he was attacked "unprovoked” and claimed that the passengers punched and kicked him.
Quavo collaborates with Ty Dolla Sign for a new music video
Quavo and Ty Dolla Sign recently joined composer Brian Tyler for a new music video for If I Fall, a song included in the soundtrack of the animated science fiction film, Transformers One. The song's music video was released on September 21, 2024.
Tyler also serves as a director of the video alongside DJ Furth. Notably, the duo are featured in the clip alongside Quavo and Ty Dolla Sign, as the clips from the film appear in the background.
The song was originally released earlier this month. Its lyrics refer to the main characters from the film:
"Ain't no plan B and we won't stand for defeat / I'm in my prime, Optimus (Optimus), I'm goin' big, Megatron / I'ma sting, Bumblebee, now crown the king, hope you proud of me."
The song appears in the end credits. While speaking to Variety, Tyler described it as an "anthem" that inspires anyone to not give up. He even addressed the composition of the song by saying:
"I wanted to give [the music] this relative feeling of familiarity, but all of a sudden, his music feels both villainous but also tragic. You understand why this happened. The music had to capture that nuance."
Tyler also spoke about the experience of directing the video, saying that it was hard for him considering that he had to sing and handle the musical instruments at the same time. Meanwhile, Transformers One arrived on the big screen on September 11, 2024, and has received a positive response so far.
