Roc Royal’s ex-fiancée Sammy opened up about her past relationship with the incarcerated rapper in an exclusive interview with The Shade Room Teens, released on September 14, 2024. In the interview, she discussed the reason behind their breakup, details about their alleged marriage, and the inspiration behind her new song Toxic Love. Royal remained incarcerated at the time of writing this article.
Roc Royal, who went by the moniker of Santo August, was arrested in February 2016 on charges of battery, weapon possession, and robbery. In July of the same year, the rapper pleaded guilty and requested a reduced sentence in exchange. He was supposed to be out of prison in 2018 but remains behind bars to date.
Meanwhile, Sammy revealed that despite rumors of them being married going viral back in April 2024, they were not true. The duo was not legally married but had a “domestic partnership” after Roc Royal proposed to her in the visiting room of the prison.
Exploring Sammy's relationship with Roc Royal as the former shares details behind their breakup
In her interview with The Shade Room Teens, Sammy mentioned that she met Roc Royal through Instagram. Discussing their breakup, Sammy stated that the “lack of trust towards EACHOTHER, the disrespect” and the lack of communication, along with a “sense of disconnection,” led to the end of their relationship. She added:
“I probably should have exercised a bit more selfishness in that situation. We definitely had our differences regarding the rumors, and in the end we just both decided to go our separate ways.”
Regarding the inspiration behind Toxic Love, Sammy said:
“The arguments, rumors, the he said/she said, infidelity. I was putting up with it long enough, and the best decision was for me to move on before I put myself in a position where I would be stagnant."
She then added that better communication between the two would have saved their relationship.
The interview comes after Roc Royal, whose real name is Chresanto August, was filmed beating up a drug addict back in July 2014. It was reported that he resorted to the same as he was owed money. Later on, August allegedly stole a BMW 325i vehicle from producer Chris Clark, leading to him getting caught months later.
Speaking about whether she kept checking on the Amazing crooner as he spent time behind bars, Sammy said:
“No I do not, if it was ever “checking up,” it was about our termination of domestic partnership. We no longer have any contact with each other. He is an amazing individual though, I can’t have hate for someone I once had love for. I am now at my best mentally and physically.”
For those uninitiated, Roc Royal, born in 1997, joined the boy band Mindless Behavior in 2008 as its main rapper. The band released their first record, #1 Girl, in 2011. Sadly, Royal was kicked out of the group in 2014 after getting into legal trouble.
Roc Royal is the father of two sons, Royal August and Bronx August, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Desiree Twyman.
