Tempo Music recently filed a lawsuit against Miley Cyrus and her 2023 hit Flowers, as the company claimed that it had too many musical similarities with Bruno Mars’ When I Was Your Man, as reported by TMZ. It is worth noting that Tempo Music owns a share of the Bruno Mars song, which was released in 2012.
Apart from compensation for the copying, Tempo Music has also demanded that the singer, Miley Cyrus should not be allowed to sing the song or perform it anywhere for monetary gains. As per documents obtained by TMZ, the lawsuit mentions that Miley “intentionally” copied Mars, as it states:
"It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man.’”
However, as soon as the word about the lawsuit reached social media, several Miley Cyrus fans began reacting to it, and bashing Tempo Music. An X user, @BuzzingPop posted about the same, and several netizens reacted by saying:
“Miley has been open about the interpolation, why the sudden cash grab moment? Very weird.”
Other fans of the song, and the singer also sided with her and commented:
“Didn't she literally confirm she interpolated it or am i making things up,” wrote a netizen.
“Why would they wait almost two years to say something? they want that money so bad,” commented another X user.
“Bruno himself congratulated and used the song for ads, they're just money hungry people,” exclaimed another.
“Took them years to figure out suddenly,” stated another X user on the post.
“Get a job and leave Miley and Katy alone,” bashed another social media user.
“They waited until it made a ton of money so the royalty checks would be FAT,” said another angry fan.
