Why does Tina Knowles refer to Kelly Rowland as her third daughter? Beyonce's mother praises the singer's "class and grace" after viral Cannes moment

On May 23, Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, supported singer Kelly Rowland and praised her for her poise and dignity following a widely shared video from Cannes. The video showed Rowland pointing her finger at a female security guard on the Cannes red carpet. Later in an interview with AP News, Rowland explained that her boundaries were not respected.

In response, Tina Knowles defended Rowland on Instagram, writing:

"And just like that, she @kellyrowland graces another carpet with her amazing glorious beauty, class and grace!!!! Sipping champagne and living her best life."

Although Rowland is not Tina Knowles' biological child, she has always been regarded as a third daughter. As reported by Essence in October 2020, Beyoncé's parents were allegedly granted legal guardianship of Kelly by her mother, Rowland Garrison, when she was a very small child.

Kelly Rowland was spotted on the Cannes red carpet on May 21, 22, and 23, with a video of her going viral on Thursday, May 23.

Following this, Knowles came to Rowland's support on Instagram with two different posts. In one post, Tina stated that Rowland had "gracefully graced another carpet" with her extraordinary beauty, elegance, and grace.

Tina Knowles went on to say that Rowland is leading the greatest life possible, proving that even one "silly monkey" cannot put an end to the show.

In another post, Knowles wrote:

"What kind of perfection is this Kelly?????you got the world shook !!!!!!!! You are killin em right now. Don’t get no better than this !!! The face, the skin , the lips, and that body and These abs."

Rowland has always been regarded as Tina Knowles' third daughter. In an interview clip with Vogue, posted on Knowles' Instagram page on May 26, she referred to Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé, and Solange as her "three daughters."

She wrote:

"Each child is different! But all so special. I believe kids are born with their personalities. My three girls All handled things very differently. Learn their personalities and respect the individuality."

In the past, Knowles had also called Rowland her third daughter. She described how Rowland moved in with her family at the age of 11 on Today with Hoda & Jenna on May 20. She also mentioned that Rowland's mother, 66-year-old Doris Rowland Garrison, passed away in December 2014.

Furthermore, on May 7, 2015, addressing Beyoncé, Solange, Kelly Rowland, and her niece Angie in Time's Letters From Mom section, Tina wrote:

"I gave birth to two of you, but I have four incredible daughters. Writing this brought to mind all the ways you guys have been such a blessing to me."

On May 23, Kelly Rowland opened up about an allegedly heated altercation on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet between her and a female security guard.

In the viral video, Rowland can be seen waving at her fans as she walks up the red carpet. Suddenly, a female security guard appeared, brushed against her, and gently pushed her up the stairs while holding her arm up behind her.

Initially, Rowland appeared calm. However, she turned to face the guard and pointed firmly at her as the guard repeated the same action. In an interview with the AP News on May 23, Rowland discussed the incident and defended herself:

"The woman knows what happened, I know what happened. I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it."
