Usher has been in the headlines since he confirmed the dates for his tour, Past Present Future, in February of this year. The tour was scheduled to start on August 14, 2024; however, the rapper has shared an update, saying that the first three shows in Atlanta won't happen as scheduled.
In an Instagram post on August 16, he informed his fans he was injured in the neck during rehearsals for his performances, so he has rescheduled his shows.
"My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night. Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform ant shows this week," he wrote.
The Scary Movie 5 star wrote that he can commence the tour on August 20, 2024, based on what his doctors have told him. He expressed gratitude towards his fans for supporting him and understanding that he must fully recover to give his best in the performances.
The artist ended the statement by revealing that the Atlanta shows, which were supposed to happen on August 14, 16, and 17 at State Farm Arena, have been rescheduled for December 9, 10, and 12 this year.
Netizens expressed their sympathy as soon as the singer shared details of his injury on social media. People took to the comments section of his latest post, asking him to take care of himself and advising him to prioritize his health.
Usher's new tour was announced back in February 2024
Usher, also known as Usher Raymond IV, disclosed the dates for the Past Present Future tour earlier this year. He initially planned 24 shows and later added 17 more due to the positive response to the tour after its official announcement.
Tickets were available from February 7, 2024, through platforms such as Citi and Verizon, and general ticket sales were launched on February 12. The first show was scheduled at Capital One Arena, Washington D.C., on August 20, and the lineup of shows for this year would have ended in Houston on November 27.
The tour will extend to 2025, with the performances starting on March 29 and concluding on May 7. Before his recent Instagram post about his injury, he shared another post, which has been deleted now, saying that he has done everything to bring a different kind of experience for his fans.
"I have every intention of doing that for this tour as well which is why I have to postpone tonight's show and reschedule it for a later date to give my body a second to rest and heal."
Usher said he does not want to disappoint anyone and cannot give his best if his physical condition is not up to the mark. He said his team would share more updates on the rescheduled dates.
The tour was organized to support his latest album, Coming Home, which came out on February 9, 2024. The album grabbed the second spot on the US Billboard 200 and featured 20 songs in the soundtrack.
