Record producer and son of singer Isaac Hayes, Isaac Hayes III, recently shared a video on social media that has grabbed much attention. The clip featured Isaac being confronted by a woman who seemingly made racist comments.
Isaac recorded the incident on camera and posted it on Instagram on December 24, 2024, writing in the caption:
"Christmas Eve Karen: I've never seen a Karen in the wild. Well tonight I had my first up close encounter with one. I stayed calm, I made no sudden movements and got away as quickly as I could."
Isaac further wrote that he was stopped by the woman from entering his community, as she told him to be "white." He described the encounter as "pretty surreal" and wrote in the end:
"White supremacy is crashin out all 2025. Be safe."
The clip posted by Isaac started with a focus on the inner portions of his car and then he slowly moved the camera toward the outside. Isaac was entering his neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia, when he saw a woman standing a few feet away from his vehicle.
The woman was seemingly intoxicated, as she questioned Isaac about his identity and asked if he was trying to get inside. The woman also said to him:
"You driving here like a bat out of hell, you drive in and drive out… F**k you. It's so ridiculous, we have dogs, we have people, and you don't even care."
Although Isaac did not give a strong reaction to the woman's comments, he told her that he lives in the community. However, at the end of the clip, the woman can be heard saying:
"Why don't you be white?"
The comments section of Isaac's post subsequently flooded with different responses, with users alleging that the woman was drunk and telling Isaac to take strict action against her. A few others praised Isaac for not behaving in the same way as the woman did.
Isaac Hayes' family sued Donald Trump earlier this year for using his song
Back in August 2024, the late artist's family sued Donald Trump for using his single Hold On, I'm Comin' without their consent at various rallies. Isaac Hayes III confirmed the same through a post on X at the time, wherein he wrote:
"We the family of @isaachayes Isaac Hayes Enterprises, represented by Walker & Associates, are suing @realDonaldTrump and his campaign for 134 counts copyright infringement for the unauthorized use of the song 'Hold On I'm Coming' at campaign rallies from 2022-2024."
Judge Thomas Trash in Georgia eventually ordered Trump's campaign to stop using the song, as per BBC's September 4 report. However, Trump's attorney Ronald Coleman spoke to the reporters at the time, saying that the campaign had already decided to "cease further use" of the single on any occasion in the future.
Coleman also stated that his legal team has spoken to Isaac's lawyers and that they are working to solve the entire issue as soon as possible. On the other hand, while addressing the verdict, Isaac Hayes III told the reporters that his father would have never endorsed the former President of the United States.
Notably, Isaac Hayes wrote Hold On, I'm Comin' alongside David Porter. Recorded by soul and R&B duo Sam & Dave, the 1966 single peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B singles chart and No. 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
