The third judge in the Young Thug’s RICO case, Paige Reese Whitaker, has denied a mistrial motion stating that the motion asks her to act as an “appellate court,” which is beyond her boundaries. As per Fox 5 Atlanta, the mistrial was based on the previous judge, Glanville’s finding that the “ex parte hearing was not improper.”
Apart from denying the mistrial, the new judge has also denied the request for bond for Young Thug, as Paige Reese Whitaker made it clear she will not “reconsider any bonds or change in circumstances.”
She added the changes of judges do not mean a “change in circumstances” as Judge Ural Glanville was not removed on the grounds of being biased. Young Thug’s attorneys have been making mistrial motions repeatedly, as they stand their ground by stating that Glanville was biased against them.
Judge Glanville was removed from Thug’s case in July 2024, after he met the prosecutors and the witness without Thug and his lawyers knowing the same.
Thereafter, a second judge came into the picture, Judge Shakura Ingram, who recused herself just a day after becoming the judge on Thug’s case, as she stated one of her deputies had a romantic relationship with a co-defendant in the case.
Judge Paige Reese Whitaker rejected multiple pleas in the Young Thug trial
As the new judge in Young Thug’s case ruled against the mistrial, she also denied two other defense motions, one of which stated that the Fulton County prosecutors should limit their interaction with the media, which was denied by the judge.
During the trial held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the judge also ordered Fulton County Assistant Chief District Attorney Adriane Love to produce a list of evidence and witnesses by next week. The same came in after the prosecutors alleged that they still had 100+ witnesses left to be called.
Expressing the same, Whitaker said,
“This trial should not take the next seven months. I’m not saying it won’t, but it shouldn’t.”
Thug was arrested in May 2022 and faces multiple charges, including selling drugs, robbery, shooting, and murders. As per WABE, he faces more than two dozen other charges, including street violence, kidnapping, owning illegal arms, and even racketeering.
It is also worth noting that Thug’s co-defendant Yak Gotti also moved for a mistrial, which has also been rejected by the judge. Stating the same, the judge in the case claimed she needed more time to go through the transcripts before she decided on the same.
