Billie Eilish has expressed regret over her candid revelations about her sexuality and dating life, stating that she no longer wishes to discuss these topics publicly. In a November 2024 cover story for Vogue posted on October 8, 2024, the 22-year-old singer emphasized her desire for privacy, a stark contrast to her previously open conversations in interviews.

"I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever. And I hope that they never will again. And I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again," Eilish shared.

Billie Eilish's comments come after a whirlwind of media attention in 2023 when she appeared to have come out during a Variety interview. At the time, she discussed her deep affection for women, leading fans to interpret the remarks as a statement about her sexuality.

While she didn’t explicitly intend to come out, Eilish later reflected that she assumed people were already aware of her orientation.

Billie Eilish faced backlash after unintended coming out

In November 2023, Billie Eilish sat down with Variety for their Power of Women issue, where she made a comment about her attraction to women.

"I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real," she said.

This sparked widespread fan reactions, as many interpreted her words as a confirmation of her bisexuality.

Following the media frenzy, Billie Eilish told Variety a month later that she was surprised by the reaction, as she thought her sexuality had been apparent all along.

"But I kind of thought, 'Wasn’t it obvious?' I didn't realize people didn't know. I just don't really believe in it. I'm just like, 'Why can't we just exist?'" she explained.

Despite the attention on her personal life, Eilish expressed frustration over the scrutiny, particularly over how much people focus on her relationships and sexuality. She told the publication that the intense public interest feels "unnatural" for someone her age.

In addition to her interviews, Billie Eilish has touched on themes of sexuality in her music. Her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, released earlier in 2024, features a track titled Lunch, which contains lyrics that some listeners interpreted as referring to her sexuality.

"I could eat this girl for lunch. Yeah, she dances on my tongue. Tastes like she might be the one," this line fueled further speculation about her romantic preferences.

While her music may offer glimpses into her personal thoughts, Eilish has made it clear that she intends to keep her dating life private moving forward. She noted that the public fascination with her love life has added pressure and stress, which she hopes to avoid in the future.

Beyond her personal struggles with media attention, Eilish has used her platform to advocate for social and political issues. With the 2024 US presidential election approaching, she has been vocal about her support for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, the current Vice President. Eilish expressed her desire for a safer future for women in the US in her October interview with Vogue.

"First female president? Would be really amazing. I would love to feel safe as a woman in my country," the singer shared.

Her activism extends beyond politics. Throughout her career, Eilish has championed women's rights and mental health awareness, encouraging her fans to register to vote and make their voices heard.

Currently, Billie Eilish is promoting her latest album Hit Me Hard and Soft, and collaborating with artists like Charli XCX on new music projects.
