Chappell Roan recently addressed the behavior of a handful of fans, who crossed certain limits on different occasions. Roan posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram page on August 24, 2024, where she mentioned the situation that an artist has to undergo while performing.

Roan said that she is in "work mode" when she is performing on stage and continued:

"I don't agree with the notion that I owe a mutual exchange of energy, time, or attention to people I do not know, do not trust, or who creep me out – just because they're expressing admiration. Women do not owe you a reason why they don't want to be touched or talked to."

Chappell Roan wrote that her words were not intended to criticize the "gratitude and love" she shares with everyone and not targeted to those who respect her boundaries or have been there with her to help the project get to where it is now.

Notably, the comments section of the post is currently inactive and Chappell Roan revealed the reason for the same, saying that she was not seeking someone's response because she was not having a group conversation. She added:

"I understand that this is jarring to hear from a person in my position. I'm not afraid of the consequences for demanding respect. Just to let you know, every woman is feeling or has felt similar to what I'm experiencing. This isn't a new situation."

Roan said that in case her statement has left anyone upset, that particular individual needs to ask himself or herself why she is so frustrated.

Chappell Roan says that she wants to feel safe like everyone else

In her latest post, the artist revealed the reasons behind becoming a part of the music industry, saying that it was something that she wanted to pursue since her childhood. Chappell Roan stated that she is now willing to bring certain restrictions and explained the behavior of some fans by writing:

"I am specifically talking about predatory behavior (disguised as "superfan" behavior) that has become normalized because of the way women who are well-known have been treated in the past. Please do not assume you know a lot about someone's life, personality, and boundaries because you are familiar with them or their work online."

Chappell Roan said that just because she decided to pursue a career in music does not mean that she will accept any kind of harassment. She even had an answer for those who she believed would ask her why she decided to establish herself in the music industry despite knowing the "outcome of success." She wrote:

"I embrace the success of the project, the love I feel, and the gratitude I have. What I do not accept are creepy people, being touched, and being followed."

The 26-year-old additionally slammed the thinking where people have an opinion saying that a woman should not have to wear a short skirt in case she is harassed. Chappell Roan said that the harasser must understand to leave a woman alone and "respect that she can wear whatever she wants." Roan also stated that she wants to feel safe while going outside and added:

"Please stop assuming things about me. There is always more to the story. I am scared and tired. And please – don't call me Kayleigh. I feel the most unsafe I have ever felt in my life."
