Charli XCX is one of the many celebrities who have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's new Presidential candidate, after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on July 21, 2024. The British singer took to social media to back Harris, dubbing her "brat," a reference to her latest album of the same name.

Charli's tweet, which received over 12 million views at the time of this article, was met with an overwhelming amount of positive response, with reporter Jasmine Wright adding:

"this is worth more than a million dollars of paid media."

More people added to the commentary, hyperboling that Charli XCX's tweet just won Harris the election.

"this just won her the election," said one person.
"You're now the reason she won," added another person.
"this is the biggest endorsement she got today," tweeted someone else.

Others seemed confused about why Charli referred to Harris as a "brat" but seemed optimistic nonetheless.

"I don't understand this but I'm game," wrote one person.
"I’m thankful I have teenage daughters and understand this reference," another person added.

However, there were a few who reacted negatively to the endorsement.

"The funny thing is, none of y’all wanted her in 2020 by a large margin. Now she’s “the most qualified candidate”. The DNC hustled us all lol," tweeted one person.
"Facts 1) you’re not a citizen 2) none of your cult members are old enough to vote," wrote someone else.

Kamala Harris' official campaign account rebranded itself with Charli XCX's Brat theme

The official X rapid response page for Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential campaign rebranded itself with Charli XCX's Brat theme following the singer's endorsement. The X account's header used the album cover's bright neon green theme with "Kamala HQ" in the same lowercase font as the album name.

Kamala Harris now also follows Charli XCX on social media platforms following her endorsement. But the connection between Brat and Harris started long before Charli's tweet.

There have been several edits on social media of the Vice President set to songs from Brat that have been going viral. An edit from X user @ryanlong03 featuring Harris' viral coconut tree meme set to the Charli XCX song Von Dutch from Brat received over 3.3 million views since it was first posted on July 3.

Netizens have also dubbed Kamal Harris, who is running for president, as a "Brat summer" online. For the unversed, "Brat summer" comes with the lifestyle of being a "brat," which Charli fans have co-opted to mean breaking society's barriers and living unapologetically as individuals while having fun.

According to USA Today, this was Charli XCX's definition of "Brat," as explained on TikTok:

“You are just that girl who is a little messy and maybe says dumb things sometimes, who feels herself but then also maybe has a breakdown but parties through it. It is honest, blunt and a little bit volatile. That’s Brat,” the singer said.

Along with Charli, other celebrities who have endorsed Kamala Harris include Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Legend, and George Takei, to name a few.

Charli XCX's sixth album, Brat, dropped on June 7, 2024. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 200, her highest on the chart to date.
