Rapper Cardi B responded to Joe Budden's apology after she put him on blast online earlier this week. On July 20, 2024, she reposted a video of his apology on her X account.
"I got love for you to Joe but you been changing your tone on me real heavy the last 3 years whether music or personal."
She pointed out that when she was going through a rough patch during her recent divorce, he "tried to make that about somebody else and what they got going on."
"I know criticism comes wit the territory but sometimes the narrative yall decide go run with be soooooo toxic. It’s all love tho see you soon," she concluded.
Tensions between the two grew heavy after Budden remarked that Cardi would never release a new album, stating that she's going to just be a "singles artist" on his namesake podcast.
"Everything that somebody does is good, you always hate on it"— Cardi B calls out Joe Budden
On The Joe Budden Podcast's July 18 episode, the internet personality argued:
"Cardi’s got something dropping with my man Rob[49] (referring to their sing On Dat Money) on Friday — that’s gonna be crazy But that’s what Cardi’s gonna be now, just a singles artist."
Budden even claimed Cardi B's husband, Offset, wanted her to release an album stating:
"I'm sure Offset wants Cardi to put an album out. Ay, fellas out there, boyfriends, y’all know that feeling right? When you want your bitch to get a job. You in the house and your b*tch won’t leave"
Cardi B dropped her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, in 2018. In August 2020, she released WAP as the lead for her second studio project, following it up with Up (2021), Hot Sh*t (2022), and Bongos (2023). Last year, in the fall, the rapper announced that her sophomore album would come out sometime in 2024.
However, during her interview with Rolling Stone for their June 2024 cover story, she admitted that she was working towards completing the album but that there was a lot left to do.
Cardi B responded to Budden's claims in an X Spaces rant where she alleged, she gave the podcaster a lapdance (when she was a stripper), adding that at the time he was high on cocaine. The rapper questioned Budden about his frequent negative criticism of her.
She questioned his frequent criticism of her and slammed him for hating on Drake, suggesting Drake had to keep touring due to a $400 million deal with Universal Music Group. She continued:
"Stop being a f*cking hater. If somebody gets $400 million for a deal and you talking about, ‘Well, yeah, they gotta tour, this and that.' N*gga, I’ll tour 'til I’m 65 if somebody gave me $400 million — $400 million that you don’t have. Everything that somebody does is good, you always hate on it. That’s bad, that’s terrible."
Following Cardi B's rant, Joe Budden apologized and added that he just "wanted an album from someone whose music (he) love(d)" in a separate tweet.
Budden reiterated his sentiments during his July 20 podcast episode. New episodes of The Joe Budden Podcast drop every Wednesday and Saturday.
