Jon Bon Jovi showed his support for US Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz in the upcoming presidential election. The singer-songwriter announced his endorsement while sharing a snippet from the music video of his single The People's House through his social media handles on October 11, 2024.
The People's House music video also included the country music duo The War and Treaty and the song was added to the tracklist of Jon's latest album, Forever, which came out in June this year.
The Grammy-winning artist described The People's House as a "song that celebrates this beautiful place that we call home". He then revealed his decision to vote for Harris and Walz and addressed the same by writing:
"The truth matters. And the truth is on election day I'll be voting for @KamalaHarris and @TimWalz because I believe in the power of we, not of me. I've written a song reminding us that out of many, we are still one."
Meanwhile, the post received a mixed response from the public and they took to the comments section on X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions. One of the X users criticized Jon Bon Jovi by writing that he had "lost a fan".
Similar reactions continued below the post, with people aiming at Jon's song.
"Wow! That song is awful. Bon Jovi really lost his ability to make good music. This is going to help Trump so much, and cost you 75% of your fans," another user wrote.
On the other hand, some people were in support of Jon's decision to vote for Kamala Harris.
"Absolutely love that you're voting for Harris. She'll make a huge improvement in our economy & cares about people," an X user wrote.
"We got Bon Jovi!!!," an X user mentioned.
"Thank you, some of us care about this country! I think you get it", another person wrote on X.
Many people argued that artists should not make any comments on politics and criticized the 60-year-old star for the same.
"When will musicians and actors learn to keep out of politics. I know your career is over but people were still listening to your music," an X user stated.
"Musicians and actors should keep out of politics. I still enjoy Bon Jovi's music," wrote another one.
"What do you do for a living? Maybe stick to that," an X user remarked.
Jon Bon Jovi expresses his happiness on a high school auditorium being named after him
Jon Bon Jovi visited the Sayreville War Memorial High School on October 1, 2024, to attend the dedication ceremony of an auditorium, which was renamed Jon Bon Jovi Performing Arts Center.
The renaming was done as a tribute to the rockstar's contributions to music. Notably, the artist was once a student of the same school during his junior and senior years. As a gesture of gratitude, Jon Bon Jovi donated a state-of-the-art recording studio to the school and gifted commemorative t-shirts to students.
The school also shared an Instagram post about the same and praised him by saying:
"Jon was also gracious enough to participate in a question and answer segment with our students, and take pictures and sign autographs. In return, Jon donated a brand new, state of the art, recording studio to the HS performing arts department and well as a commemorative t-shirt."
While speaking to the students, the veteran musician emphasized the importance of resilience. He even recalled the time when he performed live for the first time in the same school and said:
"It was a summer talent show, my band played three songs. We lost the contest, and I brought the second-place trophy [here]. I brought it to show you that they even spelled my name wrong, and that success is all about failing nine times, but learning to get up ten."
Jon Bon Jovi was accompanied by a close friend from the same school, Dave Sabo, one of the guitarists of the heavy metal band Skid Row. Jon praised Dave in his speech, saying that he would not have achieved anything without the latter's support.
