American rapper Polo G was one such name in the hip-hop industry who didn't take a side in the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. In the interview with DJ Akademiks, which was released on August 6 on YouTube, the rapper was asked about who he would want to support in the much-publicized beef.
Since Polo G didn't want to answer, Ak changed the question and asked him to pick a favorite track that was released during the beef by either of the two artists. This prompted Polo G, aka Taurus Tremani Bartlett, to choose Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us. Ak also couldn't seem to deny the success that the track had received over the past few months and called it a "bop." Taurus said:
"I don't wanna pick a side man... but Not Like Us is my favorite song."
The conversation between DJ Akademiks and Polo gained massive attention, and netizens flooded the internet with reactions. Some of the online responses are:
One user wrote:
"He already picked a side with that reply he’s with the GOAT."
"I mean it was worth it for kendrick LMAO," said another user.
"He already picked a side Team NotLikeUS," added a tweet.
A lot of other netizens had a different perspective, where they felt there were other songs that came out during the beef that were better than Not Like Us. One user tweeted:
"Not Like Us is the anthem for the battle, but most of the other tracks from both artists were better from a substance & material perspective."
"6:16 in LA so f*cking good bruh," wrote another user.
"Out of all the songs to come out of the beef he chose Not Like Us," wrote another netizen.
Polo G made a comeback in the music industry with his recently released studio album
Polo G recently released his fourth studio album Hood Poet on August 9. The album surfaced about four years after the rapper announced that he was going to stay out of the limelight for a while to become more sober and concentrate on himself. He is a rapper who had become quite successful over time but didn't have quite a smooth way to it.
In a recent interview with Complex, as published on August 13, 2024, he said:
"Music, especially today, is more of ‘What have you done for me lately?’ kind of thing."
Polo G additionally stated:
"You have to be in these people’s faces and always have to remind them. With so much time that has gone by, I feel like for the people who forgot or for the people who think I’m not who I once was, it’s time to show them what I’m really about."
In separate news, his name had been in the headlines because of his family drama involving his mother Stacia Mac and sister Leilani Capalot. Coming back to his current statement where he weighed in on the much-talked-about beef of the year between Lamar and Drake, while he didn't specifically pick a side, fans speculated that choosing Lamar's song might be a hint about the side he preferred.
