Singer Jon B recently appeared on the Can We Talk R&B podcast and opined on Justin Timberlake’s new No Angels music video. The former criticized his fellow musician for creating “demonic” music. The aforementioned song is part of Timberlake’s sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was.
The episode featuring Jon B was released on July 31, 2024. The Grammy-nominated singer jokingly stated that Justin Timberlake would not be successful if it wasn't for him. Jon B then stated:
“I’m sorry but that new single is trash and I’m not feeling his new music at all anymore. And the video is more trash. I don’t really like this demonic s**t. You would sell your soul to be popular or something or to give your allegiance to some hidden powers behind the scenes.”
Jon B went on to discuss what R&B music celebrates. He stated that the genre stood up for “love music.” Jon B then added:
“I stand in the face of fear and hatred and anger and sadness like an angel of light.”
Inside Justin Timberlake’s No Angels music video as Jon B criticizes the singer
Justin Timberlake released the music video for his No Angels track on March 18, 2024. The Ti West-directed video starts with the 43-year-old singer entering a mysterious building that turns itself into a club. Timberlake appears to be captivated by multiple women before strange activities begin to take place.
At one point, a woman scratches Timberlake’s face, and everyone on the dance floor seemingly turns into evil creatures with white eyes. The Mirrors crooner then meets another woman who showcases giant wings, with a dark liquid coming out of her mouth.
At the end of the music video, an alternate version of Justin Timberlake, who appears to be directing a music video, says, “That’s a wrap,” before thanking the crew for their work. Justin Timberlake then walks out of the aforementioned building and opens his car’s trunk before an alter-ego of his strangles him and places him inside the vehicle’s trunk.
Justin Timberlake took to Instagram in March to promote his album. Speaking about the same, he said in a post that included behind-the-scenes photos:
“My sixth album Everything I Thought It Was comes out at midnight (ET). This album is a culmination of where I’ve been and where I’m going- and I’m so grateful and nervous and excited to put it out into the world for you all. Thank you for all the love, it truly means so much to me.”
Timberlake had not responded to Jon B’s criticism at the time of writing this article.
