Charlamagne Tha God seemingly put Drake on blast on The Breakfast Club recently. This comes after the latter took legal action against Universal Music Group for allegedly artificially boosting the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us diss track against him.
The radio show host opined that Drizzy did not understand “culture” and that if anyone was to be sued for their statements, it should have been the Too Good crooner himself.
Charlamagne Tha God gave Drake the “Donkey of the Day” title after the latter initiated legal action against Universal Music through his Frozen Moments LLC. company. Drake had accused streaming giant Spotify of engaging in an illegal “scheme” to promote Not Like Us. Charlamagne Tha God said on the radio show:
“Stop acting like you haven’t been the beneficiary of record label tricknology. You being a whole h*e simply because you lost. Simply because Kendrick Lamar kicked yo a*s lyrically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. And anybody acting like this is anything more than Drake’s feelings being hurt, you a h*e too. An OV-H*e to be exact.”
Charlamagne Tha God then opined that if there was anyone who should have taken legal action in the rap battle, it should have been Kendrick Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford. Drizzy claimed that Kendrick was physically assaulting her and that Kendrick’s business partner, Dave Free, was the real father of one of Kendrick’s children.
“You’re in this position because you tapped out” - Charlamagne Tha God opines that Drake lost the rap battle because he did not release a good diss track
While explaining that Not Like Us ended up becoming a “cultural phenomenon,” the radio show host told Drizzy that Kendrick Lamar released a series of popular diss tracks, including Euphoria, meet the grahams, 6:16 in LA, and Not Like Us.
However, Champagne Papi had only dropped Family Matters and The Heart Part 6. Charlamagne said:
“Drake, you’re in this position because you tapped out… you chose to tap out after you heard Not Like Us… you could have went into the studio and given us a bop. You the bop guy. You could have got with some ghostwriters and wrote a hit that could combat Not Like Us, but you chose not to.”
While advising Drizzy about what his next move must be, Charlamagne Tha God said:
“I’m going to tell Drake exactly what I’ve been telling him this summer. Take a break, go away. Let nostalgia bring you back, people will miss you. See what J.Cole is doing, people don’t even care he tapped out of the rap battle anymore!”
More about Drizzy’s petition against UMG as Charlamagne Tha God criticizes the singer
In papers filed in New York, Drizzy’s lawyers alleged that UMG “did not rely on chance” but “launched a campaign” to manipulate online streams. It was also alleged that Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, was manipulated to play Not Like Us whenever Drizzy’s fans demanded it to play Certified Loverboy.
Drizzy’s legal team also alleged that UMG was made aware of the allegations in private, but they took “no interest in taking responsibility for its misconduct.”
In response to the allegations, Universal claimed they were “offensive and untrue.” They added that they use “ethical practices” in their “promotional campaigns.”
Kendrick Lamar had not publicly responded to the legal filing at the time of writing this article.
