In an unexpected turn of events, hip-hop icon Young Thug took to X publicly to express his support for fellow Atlanta rapper Lil Baby after Gunna's affirmation of his continued YSL affiliation went viral.

On June 26, 2024, Thug posted a tweet on X suggesting that, regardless of what Lil Baby says or does outside, Young Thug will support him. This statement follows a recent viral video featuring Gunna, another prominent artist under the YSL Records label, posted by Complex on X, in which he reaffirms his commitment to the YSL family after his release from jail.

All the tension surrounding the recent tweets and statements stems from the 2022 arrests of Gunna, Thug, and several other YSL members. It is alleged that Gunna 'snitched' during this time and abandoned YSL, as per Up Roxx.

According to Up Roxx, the authorities arrested Young Thug, and other YSL members, including Gunna, in May 2022 under Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations (RICO) allegations.

Young Thug backs Lil Baby amidst Gunna's viral YSL statement:

On Wednesday, Thug wrote a tweet showing his support for Baby, as he had supported YSL since the RICO controversy. Young Thug did not make any direct reference, but he mentioned "Wham," which is what Thug calls Lil Baby, suggesting that the tweet is for Baby.

"Whateva wham say goes."

In an interview with XXL in October 2022, Baby shed light on his relationship with Young Thug, suggesting that he is not just his hip-hop friend but a "personal friend."

"He's not like one of my rap friends. He's one of my personal friends. We actually talk on the phone. Or if we in the same city, like one of the guys that I pull up on."

Thug's tweet came after the video of Gunna on June 26, 2024, discussing his loyalty to YSL, despite recent speculation and rumors suggesting potential rifts within the label. It is unknown for whom the video was recorded, but in a 17-second video clip, Gunna asserted he is "still signed to YSL," and there are no changes made to the paperwork.

"I'm still signed to YSL. I'm still providing. We still pushin'. No paperwork has been changed. So, it's like, whatever's been getting and how we've been pushin' this sh*t, it's still going."

Gunna shared similar feelings for YSL and Young Thug in an interview with XXL on April 15, 2024, roughly two years after authorities arrested the record label founder and members. Gunna when asked about his relationship with Thug and if he speaks to other members, Gunna suggested that "it's the same" and he talked on the phone with them —

"It's the same. It's love, always. Our relationship is our relationship. I talked to like, maybe like, two or three of those guys. I talked to them on the phone. Yeah, peacefully."

As per Billboard, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis believed that record label YSL was involved in violent street crimes and was a street gang. Since its formation in 2012, Willis alleged it had a series of crimes, including murder, robbery, theft, carjackings, assaults, and more. When Willis arrested Young Thug in 2022, he suggested that "it does not matter what the person's fame is" —

"It does not matter what your notoriety is, what your fame is."

The 28 affiliated men, including Gunna and Thug, were charged in a 56-count RICO case. Gunna was charged with one count of conspiracy to violate RICO and spent seven months in Fulton County Jail. Initially, the court sentenced him to five years of imprisonment, but later reduced it to 500 hours of community service.

Things went sour between Gunna and the YSL founder when a video of the plea leaked online, where Gunna admitted to some illegal activities involving YSL. Most prominently, when the prosecutor asked Gunna about the alleged hydrocodone, methamphetamines, and a firearm recovery from Thug's residence and asked if they did not belong to him, Gunna affirmed.

Young Thug's recent trial for the YSL RICO case was on June 11, 2024, and the defense and prosecution continued their arguments. The next trial date has yet to be announced. Gunna or Lil Baby have not reacted to Thug's tweet yet.
