Kelly Yazdi, the estranged wife of country singer Zac Brown, has opened up about the details of their divorce after having sued her soon-to-be ex-husband over a music video.
Yazdi, who was previously the executive vice president of Brown's company - ZBC - sued them over the music video of his song “Beautiful Drug Ft. Avicii Remix”. She revealed the reason behind her suit in an Instagram video, saying:
"I’m doing this because they used the video footage from our private wedding party in Nashville for his music video for commercial gain, in the video they replaced me with a lookalike model who’s seen behaving promiscuously, irresponsibly, unprofessionally, and recklessly."
In a statement published on the spokesmodel's website, she also pointed out that the song was released a day after Yazdi accepted the divorce documents publicly filed by Brown.
Yazdi revealed that Zac Brown had asked her for a divorce over Zoom
According to E! Online, Brown and Yazdi initially kept their relationship private, and were first spotted together in June 2022 at the country singer's birthday party. The couple tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony in Nashville in August and threw a wedding party on November 18th, 2023.
In her statement, Kelly Yazdi revealed that Zac had asked her for a divorce nine days after their wedding over a Zoom call.
An older statement, published on her website on August 12, revealed:
"Zac divorces me over Zoom, attempts to force me to sign a marital NDA, uses our private wedding party video as a music video for commercial gain & replacing me with a lookalike model, then sues me for posting a poem… and as soon as I spoke out about our relationship, out come his PR attack dogs and goofy proxies.
The statement continued:
"If this is as it appears, these aren’t the actions of a real man - these are the actions of a schoolyard bully who isn’t man enough to handle his own affairs."
Lone Star Live reported that in a video uploaded on TikTok, Yazdi also disclosed after she refused to sign a lifetime NDA, she was also fired from her position in Zac's company. Kelly worked as the executive VP for Zac Brown's Collective from August 2022 to February 2024.
Yazdi was first sued by Zac Brown over a poem she posted on Instagram
Kelly Yazdi's suit against Zac Brown is a countersuit, with the first suit between the couple filed by the country singer in May 2024 - three months after their divorce was filed.
Brown's lawsuit, filed on May 17, demanded his estranged wife to take down an Instagram post - which consisted of a poem - which, according to him, broke a confidentiality agreement and negatively impacted his public image.
Furthermore, the lawsuit prevented Yazdi from "making any defamatory, false, untrue, or otherwise damaging statements" about Brown, his family, and his bandmates.
Zac Brown also stated the lawsuit to NBC News, sharing:
"After much deliberation, I took the steps necessary to enforce an agreement between us to maintain personal and business affairs in confidence and to protect my family from online harassment and speculation. My only hope is for us to keep private matters private and to move forward with the mutual respect we had agree to show one another when we parted ways."
According to Kelly Yazdi's statement from June 3, the restraining order filed by Brown was denied by the federal court.
Brown's wedding to Yazdi wasn't his first one. Before her, the country singer was married to Shelly Brown - a jewelry designer - for 18 years before announcing their separation in 2018. The couple shares five children.
