Well-known singer Paul Di'Anno, 66, unexpectedly passed away from unknown causes on October 21, 2024. He gained recognition as a member of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden and later became a part of groups such as Gogmagog and Killers.

Paul Di'Anno's family confirmed the news of his demise through a statement on Facebook. The post included a photo and the caption featured his achievements over the years, which also impacted his career.

"Despite being troubled by severe health issues in recent years that restricted him to performing in a wheelchair, Paul continued to entertain his fans around the world, racking up well over 100 shows since 2023."

The artist's cause of death is yet to be made official. Back in July last year, Paul recalled his arrival at Iron Maiden, where he played from 1978 to 1981, in an interview with Misplaced Straws, saying that he and the band leader Steve Harris attended the same school. He stated that the group was once looking for a singer.

"A friend of mine, Trevor Soll who knew me and Steve, said that, "Maiden are looking for a singer, would I like to try out?" I was more interested in punk music, to be honest with you. But I went down there to go, made up the lyrics, or made up the worlds for a cover of a song "Dealer" by Deep Purple, had a go at that."

Paul Di'Anno performed in a wheelchair for most of the time and he addressed the same by saying:

"I've had eight years of sitting around, always waiting to die with the sepsis and everything, so I'm not gonna f*ck around like that anymore. So yeah, things are going alright, as I said it's a bit logistically a bit of a nightmare, but we're making it, and we're making it work, as I said."

Paul Di'Anno had to undergo knee surgery in 2022: Health issues and other details explained

As mentioned, the Chingford native's health problems left a negative impact on his career. However, Iron Maiden helped him as he was dealing with the problems, including his knee surgery around two years ago, where the band assisted him in paying the medical bills.

Notably, the surgery was supposed to happen a long time ago and a crowdfunding campaign was started on JustGiving to accumulate around $27,000 for the same. Paul Di'Anno previously had another surgery in 2016 and an abscess was removed from his lungs.

While speaking to Mariskal Rock in 2019, he revealed that he had sepsis which almost led to his death. He said that he was hospitalized multiple times in four years and addressed the complications resulting from his sepsis by saying:

"I keep getting infections, so they can't do the operations on my legs and stuff like that when they want to do them. And it's been very difficult. At the moment, I've only got one knee. The other knee has been taken out, but there's no new knee put in, so it's been a cement thing."

Paul Di'Anno opened up on his health problems in another conversation with The Metal Voice in June this year. He said that after being diagnosed with sepsis in 2015, his immune system became weak, leading to a possibility of bigger infections.

He said that he won't go on tour and addressed the reasons for the same by saying:

"It's not good for me, because I'm not getting the physio done or the lymphatic drainage I need. Or you can sometimes, but not all the time. It's very difficult. And, obviously transferring from A to B, to airplanes and onto buses and that. But playing live does you a lot of good [mentally]."

Paul Di'Anno's manager requested everyone to attend his tour this year

On May 26, 2024, a lengthy statement was shared on Paul's Facebook page, stating that the Beast Resurrection Tour would be his final tour. The announcement was made by Paul Di'Anno's manager, saying that a new decision has been taken despite heavy demand for tour tickets.

Paul's manager said that his fans have a last chance to witness him perform and continued:

"Of course, Paul will not stop performing in the UK, but in the future, you will be able to see him exclusively at larger festivals or in larger halls at several selected shows, where the repertoire will include Battlezone and Killers and Warhorse and Maiden and many other songs from all periods of his career."

The statement says that Paul Di'Anno's health condition will decide the number of times he will appear on stage and that the doctors have done everything they could to ensure that he can stand on his feet again. The manager opened up on Paul's upcoming plans and wrote:

"At the very beginning of June, Paul returns to Croatia again to continue his treatment and physically prepare for the tour, but also to sign all the autograph cards for the already ordered Warhorse CDs and give interviews to a huge list of media who are waiting to hear everything he have to say about the new Warhorse album."

Apart from his association with different bands, Paul's autobiography, The Beast, came out back in 2010. He performed at locations such as the Croatia-based Bikers Beer Factory. As a solo artist, he had several albums in his credits, including The Masters, The Living Dead, and Beyond the Maiden.
