Eminem's latest album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) has officially debuted at the top of Billboard's 200 album chart, replacing Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, which spent the last 12 consecutive weeks dominating the list.

According to a report by Luminate, Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) sold 281,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. alone for the week ending July 18. This marks the rapper's 11th No.1 album and is currently the largest album opening week in hip-hop for the year.

Marshall Mathers is now tied with Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, and Kanye West for the fifth-most No. 1s on the Billboard 200 with his 19-track LP that depicts Em facing off in a verbal back and forth with his alter-ego, Slim Shady.

The album was preceded by two lead singles which broke into Billboard's Hot 100 chart with Houdini, released on May 31, 2024, debuting at No.2 and Tobey (feat. Big Sean and BabyTron), climbing to No.27 two weeks after it was released on July 2, 2024.

A list of every Eminem album that went No.1

Eminem debuted on the scene back in 1996 with the release of his first studio album Infinite. This was followed up with the release of The Slim Shady EP in 1997, both of which caught the attention of Interscope co-founder Jimmy Iovine and producer Dr. Dre.

The duo would later sign Marshall to Aftermath Entertainment, with Dre handling the production of Em's 1997 sophomore studio album The Slim Shady LP. The Detroit rapper's success would then skyrocket with release after release that broke records and dominated the charts.

Out of the 12 full-length studio albums Em has released over his career, the only project that didn't go No.1 was The Slim Shady LP. That said, this project was extremely well received and also earned Eminem his first Grammy at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony.

Marshall's second studio album, although peaking at No.2 on Billboard's album charts, is still recognized as one of his best-selling albums, with the LP grossing over 10 million copies since its release in 1997.

The following feature will catalog the remaining 11 albums from Eminem's discography that topped the charts, as well as notable singles from those projects that broke through Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Eminem's third studio album The Marshall Mathers LP was released 24 years ago and is considered one of the greatest albums of all time, with the No.1 project shattering sales records after selling 1.7 million copies in its opening week.

The timeless project featured some of his most brash and unapologetic bars reinvigorating the hype around hip-hop, eventually leading to Em taking home multiple Grammys at the 43nd Grammy Award Ceremony.

Em's The Marshall Mathers LP also included hit singles that broke through the Billboard Hot 100 charts, The Real Slim Shady, The Way I Am, and Stan, the last of which topped the UK and Australia music charts.

Marshall's fourth studio album, The Eminem Show, was delivered to fans two years later in 2002 and debuted at No.1, remaining at the top of the global album charts for several weeks.

The project was critically and commercially well received, with the LP selling millions of copies worldwide within the first weeks of its release. Mathers' The Eminem Show would go on to win the "Best Rap Album" category at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony.

The project incorporated several themes that had become a staple for an Eminem record, with the project exploring political opinions and commentary as well as darker personal issues. It included hits like Superman, Without Me, and Cleanin' Out My Closet which all performed exceedingly well on the Hot 100 charts.

Two years after the release of The Eminem Show, the rapper would deliver his fifth studio album titled Encore. The critical response to this album wasn't as profound as its predecessor's, but Marshall Mathers' impact on the music industry was still at an all-time high which led to the project debuting on top of Billboard's 200 chart with only a three-day charting week.

This LP didn't just follow up on The Eminem Show but was also competing with the commercial success of Marshall's semi-biopic film 8 Mile and its accompanying soundtrack, of which Lose Yourself won a Grammy and an Academy Award in 2003.

Marshall's Encore earned three nominations at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards, with him losing "Best Rap Album" to Kanye West's sophomore studio album Late Registration.

4) Relapse (2009)

After a self-imposed hiatus, because of an accidental Methadone overdose that almost cost him his life in 2007, Em returned with his sixth studio album Relapse. The album debuted at No.1 after selling over 600,000 copies in its first week, marking the biggest sales week for any LP released in 2009.

Although the album was openly received by die-hard stans, the music community extensively criticized Relapse for being too "edgy," with Pitchfork rating the project 4.8/10.

The project did, however, win two Grammys at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, with Relapse taking home the award for "Best Rap Album" in 2010.

5) Recovery (2010)

In a return to form, Marshall released his seventh studio album Recovery in 2010, which was originally meant to be a sequel to Relapse but was later changed to follow themes of perseverance and struggles. The record debuted on the top of Billboard's album charts after selling over 700,000 copies in its opening week.

Fans and critics alike revered the 17-track LP as they got to see a more emotionally connected version of Marshall Mathers in Recovery, with the rapper confronting his demons in a more raw and passionate manner.

Em's Recovery was one of the most nominated projects at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony, with the project taking home two Grammys, which included "Best Rap Album".

The LP also featured massive chart-topping hits like Not Afraid and Love The Way You Lie, his collaboration with Rihanna, marking his best-selling single to date.

Three years later, Eminem would deliver the sequel to his 2002 sophomore album with the release of The Marshall Mathers LP 2 in late 2013. The project debuted at No.1 after selling close to 800,000 copies in its opening week, marking the highest hip-hop album debut for 2013 surpassing Drake's Nothing Was The Same.

Em's eighth studio album revisits themes of fame, family, and personal struggles, and was praised by fans for the maturity brought forward on this project. The 21-track LP also included the commercial hit single, Rap God, which has garnered over a billion views on YouTube.

Em's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 was a commercial and critical success and would lead to the rapper taking home the "Best Rap Album" and "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration - for Monster (Feat. Rihanna)" at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

Marshall's ninth studio album, Revival, would be delivered to fans four years later and was met with heavy criticism from fans and critics for being an echo of his more successful releases.

The LP did, however, secure enough sales in its opening week to bag the No.1 spot on Billboard after debuting with close to 300,000 copies sold. The album features serious political commentary, and personal and family issues, fueled by the mental struggles he faces being one of hip-hop's most successful artists.

Em's Revival was given a 5/10 rating from Pitchfork magazine, with the columnist suggesting this LP was "filled with self-doubt". The LP also featured guest appearances from artists like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Skylar Grey, and more, over a production headed by Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin.

Stemming from the severe critical backlash Marshall received online after the release of Revival the rapper returned with a surprise album titled Kamikaze. This project served as an aggressive response targeted at critics, journalists, rappers, and more, who had criticized Em's ninth studio album and questioned his status in hip-hop.

Em's 10th studio album was unexpectedly distributed, without a rollout, to all streaming platforms on August 13, 2018, and went on to top Billboard's album chart after selling close to 360,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week.

The project also received a nomination at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards after the success of its single Lucky You (Feat. Joyner Lucas), with Em losing the "Best Rap Song" to Drake's 2018 commercial success God's Plan.

The album features Eminem going head to head with his infamous alter ego, Slim Shady, with both versions of the rapper asserting themselves over each other as they struggle for control of Marshall Mathers.

The only compilation album from Eminem's discography to have topped Billboard's 200 charts was his first "Greatest Hits" project titled Curtain Call: The Hits, which was originally released back in 2005.

This project was eventually followed by Curtains Call 2 in 2022, which performed well but only peaked at No.6 on the magazine's album charts. Em's Curtain Call: The Hits, however, debuted on top of the charts after selling 441,000 copies in a two-day tracking week.

Marking the end of Eminem's "first phase," the project included some of his biggest singles to date, like The Real Slim Shady, Without Me, Lose Yourself, Cleanin’ Out My Closet, Shake That, and more.

Marshall's Curtain Call: The Hits has spent the last 13 years on the charts, maintaining its position within Billboard's 200 for a massive 693 weeks.

The top five albums and projects currently being tracked on Billboard's 200 album charts list Eminem and The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) as the No.1 LP for the week.

K-POP group ENHYPHEN and Zach Bryan take the second and third spots for their projects Romance: Untold and The Great American Bar Scene.
