Roddy Ricch is returning with a brand new project titled The Navy Album, following up on his 2023 mixtape Feed Tha Streets III. The rapper's social media account announced Roddy's latest LP today.
On May 30, 2024, Roddy took to Instagram to post a series of pictures with him in a suit. Fans were unclear about what the post aimed to signify, given that the rapper had captioned it stating:
"2024 is PERSONAL not business"
The rapper later reposted an announcement from one of his fan pages (@roddyricchzone) that seemingly confirmed that his upcoming album will be titled The Navy Album.
Everything we know about Roddy Ricch's upcoming album
Roddy wiping his Instagram clean only for him to announce The Navy Album signifies the start of his album rollout. It's still unclear when the project will be released to DSPs (Digital Streaming Platforms), with reports from magazines like Hypebeast and HotNewHipHop seemingly confirming the album will drop later this year. The story post confirms we've entered his rollout phase as the caption read:
"THE NAVY ALBUM ERA HAS BEGUN"
Looking through the comments on his latest social media post, fans appear more excited than ever before for a new album from the rapper who made The Box. This is evident as his last project, Feed Tha Streets III, was not as well received as his previous project. His fanbase was left longing for another album from Roddy Ricch.
The Navy Album will be Roddy's second official studio album, which follows up his 2019 highly-acclaimed debut studio album Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, which took home two BET awards for "Best Hip/Hop Album" and "Album of the Year." Ricch also won an AMA award for "Favorite hip-hop album" during the 2020 award show.
The album was packed with features from artists like Gunna, Lil Durk, Meek Mill, Ty Dolla $ign, and more, with over 16 individual records included as part of the official tracklist.
Given his debut album's runtime was about 44 minutes, and included a high-profile feature list, the expectations for Roddy Ricch's sophomore project to perform better than Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial is gaining significant momentum from his fanbase.
How well did Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial perform commercially?
Roddy Ricch released his debut studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, on December 6, 2019, and it was distributed to all major DSPs via Atlantic Recording Corporation for the United States, WEA International, and Warner Music Group.
The album peaked at #1 after selling over 100,000 album-equivalent units, marking Roddy's first No.1 album. The album would remain within the top 3 on Billboard's album charts given the popularity of viral tracks like The Box, which was used in almost every Instagram reel and TikTok at that time.
The Box would become the biggest hit in Roddy's discography, with the record going x8 platinum by retaining the No.1 spot on the Billboards Hot 100 chart for several weeks. The song has garnered over 1 billion streams on Spotify alone.
By the 10th week of Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial's release, the album was already double platinum. It was confirmed to be the longest-running No.1 debut rap album in the United States since 2003, as per a report from The Source magazine.
Roddy's recent catalog comprises two features that were distributed in 2023, which include his appearance on Gucci Mane's single, titled Pissy (Feat. Nardo Wick x Roddy Ricch), and the Internet Money x Kodak Black collaboration titled I Remember.
