A source claimed that pop sensation Britney Spears refuses to listen to financial advice from her managers. According to a Tuesday, December 17, article from In Touch Weekly, a source reportedly told the outlet that Spears' managers had been "begging" for her to reduce the spending. The report added:
"She totally ignores their warnings, though, and just accuses them of trying to control her like her father."
The source further added that the singer refused to listen to anyone who told her not to spend as much as she does. The Oops!…I Did It Again hitmaker's finances were controlled by her father Jamie Spears during her 13-year conservatorship which came to an end back in November 2021.
"Her money is running out": Inside source claims that Britney Spears is spending too much
As mentioned earlier, In Touch Weekly released a report on Tuesday, featuring statements from an alleged inside source claiming to have information on Britney Spears. The source claimed that the Gimme More hitmaker paid no mind to managers asking her to reduce her spending habits and stated:
"She blew a fortune on her recent birthday bash in Mexico, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg,"
The source added:
"Sure, when Britney was doing huge concert tours and topping the charts, she could spend this way, but those days are over. She says she’s done with the music industry, so it’s not as though there’s any potential for new earnings there."
As per the outlet, Spears earned a whopping $12.5 million for her tell-all memoir The Woman in Me. However, the source claimed that the money from this was "long gone". In Touch Weekly's inside source further added that there was also no way to predict how much Britney's upcoming biopic based on her memoir, her only upcoming project, was bound to bring in. The source stated:
"Truth is, her money is running out, but she’s still spending like there’s a bottomless pit of cash,"
Britney Spears was under a conservatorship for 13 years
Back in 2008, Britney Spears was put into a legal conservatorship after being rendered unfit to make her own decisions regarding her career and personal life. The conservatorship arose when Spears was checked into a psychiatric hospital involuntarily for the second time in January 2008.
The initially temporary arrangement later became permanent. Spears' father Jamie Spears and an attorney named Andrew Wallet controlled her assets from 2008 to 2019 before Wallet stepped down from the role and appealed for the lifting of the conservatorship.
Jamie Spears also filed for stepping down from his role in September 2019 due to health concerns. A caretaker manager named Jodi Montgomery was later appointed and a financial company named Bessemer Trust took the role of co-conservator as per Britney's wishes.
In the following years, the #FreeBritney movement picked up steam as fans and the singer called for the end of her conservatorship. According to The Independent, in June 2021, Spears gave a moving court testimony stating that she just wanted her "life back". The singer claimed that she was "traumatized " and called the conservatorship "abusive".
Following the hearing, Jamie Spears also called for an end to the conservatorship. Britney Spears' conservatorship came to an end on November 12, 2021.
