American model and singer Amber Rose made an appearance and endorsed Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention on July 15, 2024. While Amber was formerly a Trump critic, news of the Gotcha singer supporting Trump as presidential elect surfaced early in July 2024, linked to her involvement in the "Sl*tWalk" movement. Sl*tWalk is a feminist movement against s*xual assault and sl*t shaming.

MSNBC host Joy Reid commented on Amber's speech at the RNC, expressing skepticism about the impact of her endorsement on voters. Addressing Amber Rose's claims of not identifying as Black despite her career being rooted in Black culture, Joy Reid stated that Amber is not one to be trusted. During a live program covering the RNC on July 15, 2024, Reid said:

"She won’t even claim the culture that brought her to the table, I’m dubious that this will work."

Joy Reid also noted that Amber dated Kanye West, one of the most prominent Black rappers. The MSNBC host indicated that a person who doesn't acknowledge the ethnicity that has made her popular is the one Donald Trump has recruited to push the agenda of hiring people of color.

"I don’t wanna say she’s Black because she has said she’s not" — Joy Reid dismisses Amber Rose's RNC speech

While Amber Rose's speech was appreciated by Trump supporters, Joy Reid's criticism stems from a 2023 incident wherein Amber stated that she was neither black nor white.

Dismissing Amber's speech on the grounds of her own claims about her racial identity, Joy Reid stated on MSNBC Live:

"She’s racially ambiguous. I don’t wanna say she’s Black because she has said she’s not, so I don’t wanna say this Black woman. This woman who is of whatever race that she has claimed, she’s said she’s not Black, but they’ve brought somebody whose whole career is based in Black culture."

In June 2023, Amber got into a heated argument with Joseline Hernandez about racial identity on College Hill: Celebrity Edition. Joseline mentioned that she considered Amber to be a Black person, which Amber justified by stating that her father is white.

When Joseline claimed Amber wanted to be a white girl, the singer approached Joseline in action to strike her, resulting in significant backlash for Amber. Additionally, in July 2023, one of Amber's Instagram posts was shared by The Shade Room, asking fans about her hairstyle. However, trolls began questioning the singer's ethnicity, to which Amber Rose replied:

"I am NOT no f*****g white woman stop playing with me. I’m not just a black woman either."

Amber Rose talked about turning into a Trump supporter in RNC speech

During her appearance at the RNC, Amber Rose mentioned that she is not a politician but cares about the truth. She claimed that the media has lied to everyone about Donald Trump, and, as someone who used to believe those lies, she was at the RNC to "set the record straight."

The singer accepted that she thought Donald Trump was a racist and that the contention was challenged by Amber's father. To prove her father wrong, she did her research into Trump and realized that neither Trump nor his supporters care if one is white, black, straight, or gay.

Commenting on this and speaking in support of Donald Trump, Amber Rose mentioned in her RNC speech:

"It's all love. And that's when it hit me. These are my people. This is where I belong. So I let go of my fear of judgment, of being misunderstood, of getting attacked by the left, and I put the red hat on, too."

While Joy Reid condemned people for taking political cues from Amber Rose, the singer's speech also received appreciation from prominent media personalities like Christian Watson and Scott Jennings.
