DJ Quik recently shared his regret over not being able to attend Kendrick Lamar's The Pop Out- Ken & Friends concert on June 19, 2024. DJ Quik spoke to AllHipHop on June 30, 2024, at the BET Awards, wherein he mentioned that he had to opt out of Lamar's concert owing to a prior commitment.
Talking to the publication, DJ Quik said that he was in Canada during Lamar's concert in California and that he cried himself to sleep that night at the Hilton hotel.
“I was knee deep in Canada when all that unity happened,” he said, adding, “I cried myself to sleep that night in the dumb-a** Hilton hotel looking at you guys. I started hating. What did I tell you?”
DJ Quik was in Canada owing to the Cali to Canada tour alongside Snoop Dogg and Warren G.
“Snoop tried to fly us back for the Pop Out. He tried to charter a jet and it didn’t work out logistically because we would have missed our show in Ottawa, Canada. But we sat there steaming. I was steaming!,” he told AllHipHop.
"And K.dot – you are the King of the West"— Snoop Dogg compliments Kendrick Lamar for Juneteenth concert
At The Pop Out concert, Lamar performed four of the five Drake diss tracks he recently released. He opened with Euphoria and then sang 6:16 in LA and Like That. However, the concert's highlight was when Kendrick Lamar performed Not Like Us six times consecutively. During one of the performances, Dr Dre joined him on stage.
Even though Snoop Dogg couldn't attend Kendrick Lamar's The Pop Out: Ken & Friends concert, he conveyed how impressed he was with the rapper bringing some of hip-hop's greatest names on one stage.
Posting a video on Instagram, Snoop Dogg mentioned that he wanted to give a "big shout-out to K. dot (one of Lamar's nicknames) and all the homies from the West" who stood together at the concert showcasing unity, peace, and love.
“That was beautiful. That was fun to watch. Beautiful to see all my peoples come together. And K.dot – you are the King of the West. That’s the kind of s***t kings do. We unite. We bring our peoples together,” Snoop Dogg said.
Kendrick Lamar mentioned during the concert that he didn't organize the concert to celebrate the diss tracks but to unite the rappers of the West Coast. The Pop Out featured rival gangs like Crips, Bloods, and Pirus.
"This s**t ain't got nothing to do with no song at this point, ain't got nothing to do with no back and forth records, it's got everything to do with this moment right here. That's what this s**t was about, to bring all of us to-mother-f*****g-gether," Lamar said.
Apart from rival gangs and Lamar himself, The Pop Out featured performances by Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, and Tyler The Creator. Moreover, celebrities like LeBron James, Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, Rick Ross, Ayo Edebiri, and many more were a part of the audience.
