In an interview with The Guardian dated August 23, 2024, Sabrina Carpenter talked about the track Espresso from her latest, sixth album Short n' Sweet. She told the publication that she started writing the song while on a holiday in France back in July 2023. She further added that writing the song "was a manifestation tactic" because no one liked her romantically at that point, nor was anyone obsessed with her.

Sabrina stated:

“I didn’t have anyone I was even talking to. I’ve always been a bit delusional, in that sense.”

Additionally, Sabrina Carpenter commented on her song Espresso making it to the number 1 position on the UK singles chart in July. She told the publication that she hasn't "really been on charts until quite recently" so it is a newfound experience. She mentioned:
