Post Malone is expanding into Country music with his upcoming album, F-1 Trillion, but not everyone seems happy about it. He left fans divided on social media this Wednesday, August 7, after teasing an upcoming song called Wrong Ones.
The track marks the first collaboration between Post and Tim McGraw and is set for a global release next week, on August 16. Post teased the new song with an X post featuring him in country clothing as he tried his hand at some clay target shooting.
A fan praised Post Malone's experimentation with country music while hinting that the rapper's best track was Chemical. He requested Malone to lean more toward pop music.
"Your country is going hard, for sure. But Chemical is your best to date. Face to face bro, stay leaning on the pop."
Some other fans couldn't seem to wrap their heads around the big change and shared similar opinions.
"Why the country twist?" wondered one user
"you gonna go back to r&b after this?" questioned another user
"enough of country music now🥹," tweeted one X user
A large group of Malone's fans seemed excited about the new album and cheered the rapper as they tweeted:
"I fu*king love you bro, keep killing it!" said a fan
"Your a legend bro especially now creating some good country music," exclaimed another user
"So freaking excited," tweeted an X user
A fan joked about the long list of collaborations on Post Malone's F-1 Trillion album and compared them to 'Infinity Stones' from the Marvel movie, Avengers: Infinity War.
"man is collecting these country collabs like infinity stones," joked the user.
A look at Post Malone's transition into country music and the F-1 Trillion album
Post Malone kicked off his music career in August 2015 as he released his debut single, White Iverson. The chart-topping hit was part of his debut hip-hop album, Stoney. In the last decade, Malone has released four more albums - Beerbongs & Bentleys, Hollywood's Bleeding, Twelve Carat Toothache, and Austin.
The rapper continuously experiments with his work and his music often traverses different genres. The F-1 Trillion album is a similar project that seems to be fusing the themes of soulful country music and the electrified energy of hip-hop. It comes out next Friday, August 16.
The album will comprise 18 tracks, including - Yours, I Had Some Help, Have the Heart, Guy for That, and more. The album's lead single, I Had Some Help, featuring Morgan Wallen, was released on May 10, 2024. It was followed by the second single, Pour Me a Drink. The song features Blake Shelton and came out on July 16.
He released the third single of the country music album, Guy for That, featuring Luke Combs, on July 26, 2024. Post Malone is not the first artist to switch music genres this year.
He is part of the new wave of pop-to-country transition from major artists, including Lana Del Rey, Ed Sheeran, and Beyoncé.
