Rapper Young Thug's father, Jeffrey Williams Sr., has responded to his son's release conditions following a non-negotiable plea deal on October 31. The deal includes 5 years in prison, which will be reduced to time served, 15 years of probation, and a potential 20-year sentence if probation is violated.
He has been banned from his hometown’s metro region for the first 10 years of his probation. In this regard, his father, who’s nicknamed Big Jeff told the reporters:
“I am totally against that. Because this is where he is from, you know? And to have… a district attorney take that away from him that isn’t a residence from here. She’s from another state… and to see her… take a man away from where he’s from, to have to go live somewhere else, that’s offensive to me.”
Some of the other conditions of Young Thug’s release include keeping their distance from Metro Atlanta except appearing to engage in anti-gang and anti-violence presentations in front of community kids, at least four times a year. The 33-year-old has also been ordered to not fraternize with suspected gang members, his co-defendants (except his brother and rapper Gunna), and his alleged victims.
Young Thug should also not be in possession of a firearm, submit to random drug tests, abstain from making gang-related music, and make foreign and domestic trips only related to his business while complying with his probation guidelines.
Exploring further Young Thug’s father’s statement in the wake of his son’s release
Young Thug’s father Jeffery Williams Sr. told reporters on Thursday night after his son’s court sentencing that he was against the rapper taking a plea deal and wanted him to keep contesting against the state in his YSL RICO trial, and see the prosecution “embarrass themselves.” He also expressed telling the same to Thug’s lawyers Brian Steel and Keith Adams.
“But you know at the same token, my son is a, you know I’ve never tried to interfere with his decisions. I just try to give him the knowledge of making the best decision that he see fit for him, and I support it,” Big Jeff stated.
He went on to share how he was feeling “great that he’s going home,” but reiterated that he would have preferred for him to fight his case, yet respected Young Thug’s decision as he “raised him to be the man that he is,” and expressed how he would continue to support him, no matter what.
Jeffrey Williams Sr. also said how he was “totally against” the court’s release conditions that Thug has to stay away from Metro Atlanta from where he’s from, and called out the Fulton County DA who suggested it. He also mentioned being “offended” by it.
Big Jeff added that Young Thug was going to “go back to work” as he was allowed to make music and do shows, except anything gang-related.
“We’re YSL, YSL, loaded, I’m YSL loaded. And you know in order for us to get back to our normal life, we gonna have to put in some more work, we gonna have to put in a lot of work. But the work that we need to do foremost for the City of Atlanta, Fulton County, we need to get rid of the poison that’s in our system and that’s the District Attorney’s Office,” Young Thug’s dad mentioned.
Herein, Big Jeff also endorsed Courtney Kramer for the DA’s Office race and said how he “fully” supported her and considered her the “best person for the job.” Elsewhere, Thug’s father talked about his son’s “art and freedom of speech” being used against him in the trial, calling it unconstitutional.
Williams Sr. urged people to become aware of how their rights were being violated, claiming they were being “dictated” on how they were supposed to live, act, behave, say, know, learn, and even do music. He also demanded change in laws in the “new day and time.”
Young Thug’s dad wrapped up by saying how he hoped that his son wouldn’t change his now-infamous lyrics after the trial release and shared that if he had to do it, it would be nothing more than “sad.”
“That’s how he feeds his family. That’s his job,” Big Jeff added.
Jeffrey Williams Sr. also urged Young Thug’s co-defendants who were waiting to be tried, charged, or convicted to “keep your heads up,” not be “scared,” and continue “fighting,” until people who made decisions for them could be “held accountable,” or right people come to office.
This isn't the first time Jeffrey Williams Sr. has spoken about his son Young Thug's case. In May 2022, after Young Thug was arrested on 56 charges, including drug trafficking, racketeering, and firearms possession, Jeffrey told Channel 2 Action News that his son was "unfairly" linked to several crimes. He also claimed that YSL was a business and record collective, not a criminal gang, as alleged, and vowed to "defend" Young Thug until the end.
Later, in August 2023, internet personality and streamer DJ Akademiks shared a post on Instagram showing Big Jeff wearing a “FREE YSL” t-shirt and holding up a sign asking for the release of his son and his crew, adding that Donald Trump and company got “bond” for “exact same charges,” but not Young Thug. He also demanded a “fair” justice system from Fulton County DA Fani Willis.
